It was 2-1 going in to extra time. I'd say that's still competitive enough. More competitive than the Scots.

Switzerland were very good though if that's what you meant. Hungary looked like the occasion got to them.

Spain were excellent, really really good. Croatia looked like an aged team. A tournament too far for that squad.

Italy looked semi competent in patches against a poor Albania. I'd be surprised if Italy went far. Too hit and miss.

What do you think?
Too early to judge except for the bitter scots who may not get any points.

I’ve been watching the golf. Only really start to follow this once it gets to the knockout stage. I agree with Eire, extending the number of countries has weakened the tournament.

Yeah, when you start allowing the minnows to participate like Albania and Scotland then it certainly dilutes the quality.

Suppose the flip side is that it gives fans of these nations an opportunity to go and experience watching their country in a major tournament.

Will the high number of goals continue today?
Sunday games combos. Will any land?

There's a point saying the quality in the tournament going down but I think the quality of world football has gone down hill since probably 98.

This maybe nostalgia but the game is missing the likes of Brazilian Ronaldo, Christian Vieri and Paolo Maldini

Think it's nostalgia. It's also dependent on age.

Take Brazilian Ronaldo and replace him with Messi. Take Vieri and replace him with Portuguese Ronaldo. Take Maldini and replace him with Van Dijk. That would be the generation of 5 years ago. That's not to mention Neymar, Ronaldinho.
