Agree with everything there. We only had 2 shots on goal - luckily scored from both . Too passive and slow generally. Ref was very inconsistent.
Not a great game, but France progress. It will keep the natives happy, and gives me two teams to follow still.
Sebastian Prödl has been a regular analyst on Austrian television (the Servus channel) during the Euros. Servus shows more of the matches from the Euros than ORF 1 (the Austrian state television channel). Prodl still strikes an impressive figure physically and towers above the other commentators. Servus keep reminding viewers that he played 73 times for the Austrian national team. Prödl actually watches the live games rather some of the other pundits (who are sitting in the studios): he makes incisive comments and demonstrates a good tactical awareness.
France last night, now England. My wine store will be depleted before I get out for emergency supplies.
England v Netherlands, both play the backward pass ad nauseum so nothing to look forward to on Wednesday.
Then France in the final. Spain would certainly be the most worthy winners which is saying something! I think the Dutch seem to score goals at least but no sure if that is just because they were losing so had to go for it. TBH Turkey probably should have taken the game to extra time at least.
The Dutch will be glad to have got this game behind them Mark - playing against Turkey in Berlin was similar to playing in Istanbul (highly nationalistic and very intimidating).
Apparently the powers that be are considering giving a goal each time either team go over the halfway line!
