I agree he was too passive once Italy started to take charge of the game, once Saka and Grealish were both on we started to bring some balance back into the game but by then it was too late.

Henderson was poor imo (our only poor individual performance on the night).

Mancini outmanoeuvred him and showed his quality.

At least we can look forward to Saka becoming England manager in 25 years :)

His name also provides the journos with an easy pun for when he gets fired.

Thought England played well last night, managed the first half very well, though they scored too early which probably threw a bit of the game plan out the window. For all Italy’s dominance for 60 mins or so the only real chance I can remember was Chiesa weaving past a few players and a good save from Pickford.

Southgate obviously has a plan and fair play it has worked. Would a more attacking manager have gone one step further? Who knows, playing to a teams strengths rather than protecting the weaknesses might have seen England eliminated much earlier

Also glad I turned a ticket down in the end, watching in the pub with everyone bricking it before, during and especially pens made me realise it was the right decision

Genuinely the worst I have felt after a game ever, the only time that has come remotely close was when we lost that play off semi against Derby.

    **** penalties.

I think it’s that feeling of a whole year/two years of work out of the window in one game.

Also the fact we could all be dead before England get remotely close again.

On a positive note it is ****ting it down outside, feels very appropriate.

Yeah it’s the fact that we got so far, and lost on penalties. First final in 55 years and if it takes that long again there’s a good chance I won’t be alive to see it. And our club never wins anything either <laugh>

I only want one trophy from either club or country and I'll die a happy man.

It's not just about the trophy guys, so don't feel like it's been a waste of time. It's about the individual experience of every game; being with family and friends in moments of total jubilation. The Germany game alone made it a brilliant tournament.

Oh I agree and am already over it tbh. Was just expanding on RSS point on suffering heartbreak with both club and country.

As someone who has suffered 55 years of it, this is a completely different sort of heartbreak, and it only lasted a few seconds last night. What we have seen in the last few years, with a similar group of players under Gareth, is a World Cup semifinal, and now a Euro final. The next step is obvious, with a more experienced group, with an even younger average age.

But please, Mr Southgate, please, no more penalty shootouts!

One thing I’ve absolutely loved about this Euros is seeing friends who haven’t cared for football ever in their life get fully into it and emotionally
invested. “I don’t get how you do this every week” a mate of mine said to me this morning, equally as gutted as I was.

It really does feel like we’ve been robbed of the greatest party ever, but I will always have the memories of the journey, all thanks to those brilliant players and Southgate.

I agree and with the thought that Rashford and Sanchez should have been on much earlier just to get some nervous energy out of their system. At the time I had that very thought and felt for the young lads just wanting to play. The Italians managed to frustrate their introduction as, no doubt, we would in similar circumstances? They must have wanted more time with the ball and be an active part of the unfolding drama etc. However hindsight is always too late but can be a teacher for the future.

I like the idea of only being able to sign up to social media’s with ID. No more anonymous accounts just being made to give the cowardly racists public yet anonymous voices.
