You know what. An England v Italy final I think will be an all time classic.

Ok then. Italy are (nearly) yesterday's news.

Italian Apple Watch strap off. Check
    Italian Shirt off. Check
Italian bunting and flag down. Check

Ladies & Gentlemen. It's only coming home!

I've been reading this thread back from the beginning and I've just got to laugh at myself - I called Southgate a ****ing tool just a few weeks ago. <laugh>

It's been a decent tournament too really. Lots of good games and interesting stories/upsets.

Glad they're ditching off the whole ten host city thing though.

Think Libby needs to do our FA cup run next year to take us one more step further than MBOTS.

So long as they go out there with the intention of winning, then what will be will be.

Sometimes destiny really is written in the stars. This feels like one of those times.
And if it all ends in heartbreak again - well, that's nothing new.

    Is 8.00pm yet?

If is wasn’t for the bad times you wouldn’t appreciate the good times.

And good times never seemed so good (so good, so good)

Now that the dust has settled, here`s an impartial (!?) assessment of how England fared.
I thought England could go a long way, and so they did. They were maybe the fittest squad in the tournament, and they probably had the deepest squad quality wise. I`ve never been a Harry Maguire fan, but he was really good, as was Saints old boy Shaw. Beating Germany was great, albeit the poorest German side I can remember.
This was England`s best chance to win a tournament for donkeys, and I think they should have won it - the draw opened up, and they faced a knackered Ukraine, and a knackered Denmark.
Come the final, they created very little against aging (but very good) centre backs - but then they created even less against Grant Hanley and Jack Hendry.
I didn`t like Southgate`s subbing the sub routine with Grealish and Henderson - surely that must undermine confidence ? Bringing on Rashford and Sancho just to the take pens just heaped loads more pressure on their shoulders that would have been the case if they already been playing - surely Grealish, Sterling and dead ball specialist Shaw should have gone first.
Southgate is a likeable chap - I like him - but he didn`t get the best out of what was probably the best squad in the tournament. At Qatar next year, he obviously won`t have the massive advantage of playing at home predominantly. I`m not sure if the touchy-feeling hugging is a bit over the top, and is maybe a bit counter-productive.
Anyway, I would change the manager - not sure who though!

Thing is, we always have one of the best squads of the tournament. Think back to the 'Golden Generation' era, or even Euro '96. Doesn't mean we always reach finals though. Southgate has a fantastic squad for sure, but whether it's notably better than France's or Portugal's, I'm not sure. Also, England have the second youngest squad in the tournament. And in tournament football, experience is crucial (ex; Chiellini and Bonucci). Southgate isn't perfect, and sure, with the aid of hindsight, we are all able to point out where he went wrong (though seeing as it took penalties to finally defeat us, there can't have been a lot wrong). Sacking Southgate would be compete madness though, because he has instilled the type of work ethic and harmony that has been missing from England for years.

Also, it's quite tiring listening to the excuses for why England win games. Poorest ever Germany? I mean, they still have a core of players from Bayern Munich, and also from the World Cup-winning squad of '14. I've seen much worse Germany teams in the naughties. And 'knackered' Ukraine and Denmark? It's the way that England played that made them look tired. When Croatia beat us in the semi-final of '18, they did the same to us. We 'looked' tired, when in actual fact we were just chasing shadows due to poor game management. If you are being constantly attacked (like Ukraine and Denmark), it takes it out of you.

Though we were fairly boring to watch for most of the group games, we were undeniably solid. Again, this is something that's rarely been associated with England.

I understand everyone (non-English) is always eager to play down England's achievements, but the excuses are running out. If you get to a final, you are one of the best two teams of the tournament. You've passed all the tests. Italy and England were the two best teams. And in my biased reasoning; joint-winners ;)

What do you think is the outlook for Scotland's future? How satisfied are people up there with the current set-up and Euro's performance?

My view on England was we performed better than I thought we would, never thought we would reach the final- I thought QF or Semi at best.

Hindsight is wonderful, but I did say to my boy at the start of ET Italy were there for the taking, and they would play for penalties, which they did. I’m not going to knock the team or Southgate, who I think was almost perfect for 6.5 games, but just wish he had gone for it in ET.

****ty way to end a great tournament, but really pleased with how we played.

I also thought that was the best international tournament for years and years, the quality of play and referring was absolutely excellent (apart from the studs high tackle on Grealish in the Final - thought he should have been sent off).

Scotland are improving under Clarke, but he still has a limited squad with a limited number of really international class players. We didn`t take our chances when they came, and were outplayed in the final game against Croatia. By and large we enjoyed being in the tournament, and the experience will be good for the squad - hopefully there will be more to come. The fans expectations are realistic - we want a team who are committed and organised, and generally that`s what we got.

Just looked. You've got a very good chance of a play-off spot for the World Cup qualifiers!
