Match Day Thread EURO 2020(1?)

I’ve got Belgium vs France in one semi, and England vs Denmark in the other.

We have to beat Portugal and Spain en route though.

 

I think Alexander-Arnold has a long England career ahead of him, but after this season he is probably behind Walker (First XI league winner), Trippier (First XI league winner) And James (ahead of TAA in recent England squads).

By next tournament I’d imagine it would be a battle between TAA, James, Wan-Bissaka and maybe a sneaky KWP...

Phillips being out probably guarantees Jordan Henderson a place despite being out most of the season.

Johnson from West Brom will probably be third goalkeeper with Dean Henderson moving up to back up.

Finally got my email this morning confirming my tickets for England-Scotland

 

Congrats, we lost our England - Scotland which was gutting, but still waiting on one of the semi-finals.

 

We lost the Czech Rep game but not too worried now I have Scotland.

I guess they are waiting on the semi-final to see if they can allocate more tickets than they are for the group games so you might get lucky

 

When is the England squad announced? Any Saints players going to be involved? JWP or Ings maybe?

 

Tomorrow (Tuesday) I think.

I don't think Ings will make it personally. JWP probably will though.

 

It would be a big mistake if Southgate doesn't pick him IMO. Danny's the most naturally gifted finisher in the squad after Kane.

 

They also had Pepe tbf like who's among the best CB's of the 10's decade. None of our centre backs are anywhere near that standard.

Plus they had some bloke called Ronaldo who wasn't bad either.

I honestly don't rate him all that highly at all, even before his poor spell this season. Yes he can get forward well enough but I like my defenders to be able to actually defend too.

Then again Walker is also a terrible footballer. I'd have Trippier over both against the big sides for sure.

 

I'd have Wan-Bissaka over all 3.

 

AWB for the matches where we need to be defensively secure. TAA for the matches where we can be more expressive.

There's a reason why people remember Cole's defensive performance vs Ronaldo in 2004. That could be AWB vs Mbappe in 2021.

Southgate won't go for either though. Walker, James and Trippier will no doubt all be selected.

 

So what does that say about Saints this season - just musing?

So the final Euro squad not being named now Tuesday. A larger provisional squad to be announced presumably awaiting fitness after champions league.

1 June the final squad will be announced.

 

I’d have KWP in the squad.
