As the pundits pointed out, our defence hasn't been tested yet and that's where we are weakest.... so we'd better start scoring some.

Well a good game tonight for a change and the Irish are through? do they play wales next? Croatia were my tip early on in this thread.. they look decnt and with 5 changes tonight.. as long as they keep the flare clowns out they can go far.. 12/1 when i got them for the eventual winners..

Wash the sheets Plym????? It's not New Year already is it?

I was pleased Croatia won tonight. For me they should have had a player booked for diving and never mind the penalty given against so should Spain. Justice it was missed but there is a question I still need answering. What the feck is that bloke standing behind the goal line for? The Croatia keeper was almost standing next to the penalty taker. Or, has the rule about being on your line changed. If that Official can't see a transgresion by the keeper then what the bollox is he doing there.

Spain deserved to lose tonight for me. I have consistantly complained about their over passing of the ball and tippy tappy stuff that goes nowhere. If you got points for the number of passes completed then they would walk this and every tournament. But it gets very tedious after a while and I have to fight the eyelids to keep them up. Interesting next game for them as they play Italy. I named 3 teams as possibles for this trophy and they are two of them. Mind you Croatia aren't a bad outfit are they and won't be a walk over for anyone. I did notice one loud bang tonight after Croatia scored. Can't see the Officials doing much about one but it just shows that these people never learn. Having just watched your side take on and beat one of the hot favourites for the cup you would think they could control themselves and not try to get sent home with the team.

Well agree never a penalty and the Croatian should have been booked. As for the keeper it was said that Ramos stopped just before the kick so it was ok???

These 2 extra refs or what ever they are dont give much.. If you look at it most of the action and fouls are committed in the penally area . but never given. I thought that the shirt pulling was getting picked up in this event? Refs bottle it..

Well hope fully after tomorrow its the knock out so it should liven up. Its not been that good so far.. but then again its in France :emoticon-0102-bigsm:emoticon-0102-bigsm. If we go out of the EU thursday will the Fans in France be able to come back in? :emoticon-0140-rofl::emoticon-0140-rofl: They are welcome to ke:emoticon-0146-punchep the idiots..

When did the rule on kick-offs change ?

I thought you had to kick the ball forward....but I've noticed that a few restarts have gone directly backwards.

The game tonight started with only one Spanish player in the centre circle....who started the match by kicking the ball directly backwards ?

Where have you been Plym they have been doing this since the competition started. I believe it is a new rule just brought in.

If the 4th official had been doing any sort of a job Skirtle would have been banned for a straight Red in the first game and wouldn't have single handedly blocked every England shot last night. They are pointless.

At the start of it apparently. Can't see a problem with it myself and it is one of the more sensible things they have done. Most teams touch it at kick off and it's banged backwards straight away anyway.

Of course that's where at that moment all their players are positioned......and teams who play keeping the ball until the opposition fall asleep or die of boredom would be very happy.....only a very adventurous team would kick the ball forward more than a few inches and use a Usain Bolt type to attack with......it makes you wonder why the rule wasn't changed over a hundred years ago.

It's surprising he found time to score....always checking the big screen to make sure that they where showing his best profile.

Shame we are not playing them.. as we owe ronaldo one from a few years ago in the world cup.. We have a tough one against that small town called Iceland.. They have done well.. See Ireland are playing the Italians.. 8 changes for them so they may get through.. That buffoon is not in goal.. i thought he needed the Caps.<wizard>

Italy looking so poor... only fouling and diving up to usual standard. Ref is a rabbit in the headlights.

I have never been so chuffed at a result that should mean nothing to me as I was tonight when Ireland nodded one in. I have praised the Italian team previously on here and had thought they had improved their ways. However, talk about revert to type. That Referee wants chucking off the list as he was so bad it was almost laughable unless you were Irish. I counted at least 4 penalties not given. Everytime a player fell over almost without exception he blew his whistle. I haven't looked up any stats for this game but the foul count must have been huge on both sides. The Italians threw themselves on the floor so many times it was becoming a joke. Hence the chuffed at the result. Have to say it was gripping stuff though as was the previous game. Hungary could have sent Ronaldo home....what a miss. Anyway best nights football so far for me.

I have watched all 3 games today and I doubt there has been 15 minutes of decent football between them all. The Croatia v Portugal match is still going on into extra time and I have had to switch it off in the interests of my sanity and boredom threshold. I sincerely hope that all of these last 16 matches aren't like today's because if they are I will shoot myself.

Wales v N Ireland was no better than a Div 2 game.....awful football......still no score in the Croatia v Portugal game but at least some skillful football after 11 mins of ET.
