Did you see there was a liitle barney in Stormont,DUP wished NI well yesterday but not ROI<laugh>
Sure Poots said he has to hold his nose when dealing with Sinn Fein <laugh>

Even Paisleys son came out and told him to shut up.

Scotland beating England?

I don't think it was competitive - may be wrong though. And Ramsey deliberately dropped one player from the 66 team so Scotland could not claim they beat the world champions <doh>

Congrats on the performance last night though - supremely well organised and controlled I thought.

Yeah we beat them 3-2 in 1967, but I think it was a friendly, not a competitive match.
Hasn't to check back, Mick did indeed say competitive match <grr>

So are Ireland the 1st to beat the World Champions in a competitive game from these isles?

I suppose so as you are the Oracle and would have corrected him ;)

Scotland also beat Argentina after they won the WC in 1986, think we beat them in 1988 or something, surely that was a competitive match, think it was a Euro qualifier<party>

Reigning World Champions.
Yes, Argentina were reigning World Champions at the time. The hilarious joke(that I made up myself) was that we were playing them in a Euro qualifier, when Argentina are from South America the last time I checked. It was a friendly. Anyway, to answer your question, yes I would say ROI are the first nation from the British Isles to manage such a feat.
