Rooney will play as a CM in the Euros. It's not like the other options are Scholes, Gerrard or Lampard.

And everyone will act surprised when our attack is non-existent because he has no first touch

Who plays up top for Spain nowadays?

And who will be lead striker for Belgium? I'm guessing Lukaku
The problem isn't Rooney though, its more that Rooney is being shoehorned into a formation and team that he doesn't suit. You have to make a choice whether you want to go with Vardy & Kane up top or with 1 of Kane/Vardy up top and Rooney in behind them. You can't have all 3 of them in the team.

The other issue I think you should have with the team is why is Alli being stuffed into the team as a CM? He has made his name at Spurs being an attacking midfielder supporting the striker and making late runs into the box and beyond the striker. All his strenghts are being negated by being stuck into a weird left midfield role in where he spends most of his time trying to defend the opposition full back rather than getting into the oppositions box.

Hodgson probably feels he can't drop Rooney because he's captain and, when on form, is a really good player. But I agree it's shoehorning players into a team rather than going for the best all-round team - it's like Sven again. Either play Alli as the attcking MF to link up with Kane and drop Rooney, or play Rooney there and play someone different where Alli was playing.

Have to say, Lallana and Wilshire did more in 10/15 minutes that rest of the team did. They actually moved the ball quickly and looked to go past players unlike the original starting 11.

I like Kane and Vardy, but neither of them can beat a small with skill, Vardy only can with sheer pace. Milner, Alli and Rooney don't really beat men either. That's why we need someone like Wilshire/Barkley/Townsend who can beat players one v one.

Lucky right at the end not to concede. Free header. Better player would have been a goal

Sounds like the problem is Rooney to me
Its more what he's been asked to do for the team. We had same crap with Gerrard at one point remember. Best player going forward asked to stay back for the team. Its frustrating as ****.

Ta mate.

FYI: It was last night when I clicked reply on your post, then didn't bother. No idea where it's suddenly appeared from.
It auto saves even if you don't post. So next time you post on that thread it comes up if you don't notice and delete it.

What was you going to say (since no ****er answered)

I think Spain is either Morata or Costa, and I think Lukaku for Belgium. But then I realised that I was more just guessing than actually knew, so decided not to post. I probably should have just bluffed and pretended that I actually know all about the Spanish and Belgian national teams.

I was thinking Morata or Costa when I asked. I've since found out Costa isn't going.

However, I changed my FF side to include C.Ronaldo instead lol

Mr McNutly proudly tells us we need to know something that's obvious.

The stats you need to know
  • Chris Smalling scored his first goal for England in his 25th appearance for the Three Lions.
  • England's last three goals have been scored by three different Manchester United players (Marcus Rashford, Wayne Rooney and Chris Smalling).
Yep.........its all about Utd.<whistle>
