Most telling stat of the day: Liverpool's England midfield trio of Henderson, Lallana & Milner have 111 caps ........and 1 goal
We all dream of a team of eric Ds, a team of eric Ds, a team of eric Ds... Number onnnneeeee is eric D... Number twoo issss......
England manager Roy Hodgson has been told to drop Tottenham striker Harry Kane, 22, by senior figures in the Three Lions' camp - The Sun Which "senior figure" do we think that is, Rooney or Sturridge?
And if there are any antics by the opposition back four / MF, the five Diers have "got" the backs of the five Delli Allis.
His Spurs stint has manned him up and got his work rate sound. Now we need Pochettino to re-energise the creative/attacking ability that was shown at Roma so Lamela becomes a complete package.
Does it really matter ?? The entire attack against Russia was not clinical enough. I agree with Spurcat that Kane looked a bit flat (by his own high standards) . Let someone else start up up front against Wales, and at least Woy has Kane as a sub option if the starting attack has not done the job.
Let's not forget that Kane played in the U21's Championships last summer as well so has not really had much of a break for 2 years. Now Shearer has chipped in saying that Wales should be Kane's 'last chance'.... (how many chances has Rooney et al had again?)... and I say that's a good thing. **** England and let him get some rest for the team and fans who appreciate him rather than for doddery Roy's shapeless England.
I think Shearer is only saying for this tournament. Kane could probably do with a game on the sidelines, get his energy and his mojo back. He didn't look great against Russia, nor did he look great in our last couple of games. I think he's running on empty - that is the downside of Poch's system.
I did mean for this tournament and it is right that England use the attacking options available to them. Just seems harsh for all the pundits and journos to start suddenly pointing the finger at Kane after just 1 game where we did look a bit flat as soon as we approached the 12 yard box (or in Stirlings case, just run into which ever defender happened to be standing in front of him). God knows how many tournaments Rooney had been to before people started to query whether it just may possibly be worth dropping him for a game or two.
The Czech defence has done really well against Spain, but it's just not been enough. Late goal from Pique after almost endless pressure.
The complete reverse of the England game where Russia offered nothing, not a sausage, nada. Well, until James Milner thought he'd let them have a chance. But he's never let Roy down, which is important, I think. Much better than having Drinkwater or Noble.
But Wilshere and Milner were only on the pitch for about five seconds. What could possibly go wro... oh.
