How far was Peter Drury's tongue up the Irish backsides, eh? The Irish this, the Irish that....blah, blah, blah....

The media twats all seem to think that Ireland is our second team and that we all have Irish grandmothers.

Well I care nothing for Ireland and am extremely pleased they lost. They were utter crap.

Hmmm Drury maybe. But most of that stuff is idle filler when the commentator feels like there's not much happening in the match. I thought Beglin was strangely neutral considering he is actually Irish.

Thought Spain/Italy were both better than the other two.

I have an Irish grandmother. Or possibly a Jewish grandmother. Her maiden name changed from Rose to Ross in successive censuses, either through clerical error or for "political" reasons at the time of the Limerick Pogrom. How many others here have an Irish grandparent?

Anyone had any success with any bets? I'm up a rather healthy amount thanks to Germany to win and Gomez to score (5/1) and Spain-Italy under 2.5, under 10 corners and over 6 bookings (22/1)

    Today I'm having:

France to win, over 10 corners and 4-6 yellows - 26/1

France to win and benzema to score - 5/1

    Ukraine and Sweden under 0.5 @ 7/1

Super, not betting and all, I know I may be a bit green here but you can actually bet on the number of yellow cards shown?

    Ye gods.

Beglin was strangely neutral, IA, you are right. I think he felt a bit awkward around Drury and his sickening platitudes. Then again, if it weren't the Irish, it would be the Scots, or the Ulstermen. Or, God forbid, the Welsh!

    Indeed, Tewks.

I had a lovely couple of days in Gloucestershire. I sponsored some bees, spent an hour alone in Odda's Chapel (wonderful experience), and enjoyed the delights of Hetty Pegler's Tump.
The three historical talks went well. The Cirencester bunch were very energetic, but the Berkeley gang edged them for insight and medieval minutiae.

Such a beautiful county. I shall look into buying the farmstead adjacent to Great Witcombe Roman villa.

I have two, but I think I would be rooting for RoI even if I didn't, in the same way as I hope all the home nations do well.

That said, they were diving all over the place last night, and were deservedly beaten. Spain and Italy will make mincemeat out of them.

I think having watched group C, you cannot look beyond Italy and Spain to get out, I think that croatia will have a chance, but they will have to be at their best to get something from italy or spain, which I am dissapointed about because if England do make it out the group (something which would be pleasent but not expected) we will have a tough quarter final

Magic place, isn't it - did you go to St Mary's Church nearby as well?

Glad the talks went well - is the book on schedule?

Yes - The Ox starts and good luck to him - it's a big ask for one so young and inexperienced but if he just goes out there and enjoys himself, I think we could see something special.

On the other hand, France look really scary...<yikes>

    Still sticking to 1-1.

I did visit St Mary's, Tewks. The fresco work is amazing, simply captivating. It is a shame the original roof is hidden, though. Whoever thought of the pink paint on the south exterior needs a stern talking to.

The book is on schedule for mid-July. It is all very exciting.

2-1 to England. A Terry header and a Gerrard thunderbolt either side of a Nasri piece of magic.

Well, there's certainly been a Nasri piece of magic, Ponders.

Fine, patient performance so far but how much of a waste of space is James Milner? Terrible.

Gerrard is playing way too deep as well, Scotty Parker should be there leaving Gerrard to create and shoot further up the field.

Apart from Nasri, haven't seen anything remotely exciting from France, maybe a touch of Ben Arfa in the second half.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Oh is it finished? What a crock. Decent result for England. But seriously yawn inducing. And before the Scottish comments start, I wanted England to win.
