I still think people are looking through their rose-tinted glasses a bit with Alonso. Great player, yes, and I'd take him back like a shot.
However, all those who seem to have elevated him to God-like status seem to forget that he had a couple of decidedly average seasons for us.

True, but even God (Fowler) had a couple of average seasons with us. Like Fowler, though, when Alonso was average he was better than most! ;)

Back to the Euro's. I think that the Ukraine will score first (against the run of play), and then France will come back to eventually win 2-1. England v Sweden: I'm hoping this finishes 2- or 3-0 to us - but, realistically, this has 1-1 written all over it! My predictions are rarely that accurate, though, fortunately. ;)

This seems to be the only reasoned thread around at the moment, so I hope that I don't spoil it.

I have to agree with saint regarding Alonso. I too would take him back like a shot but he did have a couple of very average seasons with us.

I do hope that Carroll gets a run out tonight. If he brings his late season form to the party then he'll be far too much for the Swedish defence to handle. Having him there may also allow Gerrard to move further forward as well.

It needs to be a good strong ref in the game, that lets Carroll compete and battle and not blow his whistle every time a defender feels contact and falls over!

Spot on. The bias shown by the ref was an absolute disgrace.

Ukraine Vs France kicked off at 5PM and has been suspended.

Horrific weather condition means the ref has suspended the game. Lighting, thunder and a lot of rain. And I mean a lot.

They should put Evra in the centre circle holding a metal pole.

Back on now. Allegedly the local weather forecast was along the lines of 'possibility of light showers'. Nice to see other countries have just as crap weather-people. Fried gold!

Yip, just need patience; try to do things too quickly some times & give the ball away.
