Thanks for the offer Hampy but I would much prefer to laugh at your comedy quotations. Keep it going geezer.
Come on Hampy â the idea that Treacle or any of his Norwich pals have âviewsâ??? You have to have the rudiments of logical reasoning and some semblance of moral compass for that.
Coming from a guy who thinks Andy Carroll should go to the Euro's If we don't take Holt (we won't) then please let it not be Andy Carroll!
Please mr amazing Jonah, could you give me advice on how to be such a wonderful and perfect person like yourself?
I think Holt is probably better then most England strikers bar Rooney but I don't see why Norwich fans say we should be building for the future with England and then that Holt should be playing too - he is a short term fix. Ruddy on the other hand, as has been identified should be heading to Polkraine.
Oh God Jone-boy... Sturridge, however you want to dress it up, is not a number 9. He's a forward, and an attacking player, but he isn't a comparison to Holt, it's chalk and cheese, and I want to take sturridge AS WELL as Holt so it isn't a deal that I don't like sturridge, because I do. Your Bias against Holt, while not surprising considering the circumstances, is borderline unhealthy. Holt may be in his first season in the Premier league but he's completely excelled and contrary to what you may think he's not a dumb, fat target man, he's the most suitable number 9 for England and i'm yet to hear a suitable counter argument, and I'm very open to constructive critisism on this. You may not want Holt to Play, but Holt wants to play for you, whether you like or not. Just let him do what he's done his whole career, prove people wrong.
For God’s sake man your Holt hyper-sensitivity is pathetic. This a thread where people speculate for mild amusement on possible England squads and the one I put forward was under the criteria of mainly younger, inexperienced players. Get a life. If you looked at my post on this thread here:- http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/127453-Grant-Holt you’d witness me saying this: “I can remember people (not just us) calling for Stewart to be called up. There’s usually a newly promoted team doing well (two this season) who often have a striker doing well (two English ones this season). No surprise that Graham and Holt are attracting similar attention. The difference this season is there’s an even greater dearth of English strikers than usual. If ‘Arry (I assume it’ll be ‘Arry) thinks either of them are worth a try I won’t complain, given the current competition for five places in the squad.” So, I have no problems about Holt being called up. He just didn’t make it into my speculative squad. Diddums. By "number nine" do you mean a strong, target man type? Why do you have to be one of these to be a forward? The mere fact Sturridge isn't Alan Shearer doesn't mean he isn't a first and foremost a forward. Rooney's preferred position is "out and out forward", just not an old-fashioned "number nine" type. I see no problem with describing someone's best position as a forward even though he might not fit your criteria of number nineness. Though now you include him (along with Holt) in your complement of strikers, even though you’d had him down as a winger! Amazing. Why would I need to even pick a “number nine” of the type you have in mind? Plenty of teams get by without them these days. My squad was a young one for the future – Barca and Spain get by without Holt-style number nines (Barca beat Man U in their first Champions League final encounter without playing a striker at all); Wenger's Arsenal don’t need them, Fergie’s current Man U side (or as Man City fans would call them if they were as camp and childish as Norwich fans: “Man Un1t7d oopsidaisy” use Rooney, Hernandez or Welbeck. None of ‘em classic big fat number nines. If England are to compete over the next ten years we should be able to get by without a tactical approach that relies on this type of player.
Gee Hamps - but Beefy's yet to hear a suitable counter argument! We must just be biased! Hmm - yeah. I was struggling for young English left backs after Gibbs. I've yet to hear a suitable counter argument to Cressy and anyone who dissagress is biased...
So you've conceded Sturridge isn't a number 9, thats a start. All that Barcelona talk is completely unneeded as we will not play remotely like them. You've tried very hard to include everyone into your team bar Holt, now I'm intrigued how you'd line them up? Or hadn't you thought that far ahead.
i like your squad jonah. if we're going down the young route, that'd be close to who i'd take, but baines for gibbs. oh and i'd take dyer or pilkington ahead of the massively overrated sinclair
Baines is 28 Beefy! I was a after a YOUNG left back. Not only that, but apparently Baines is one these little girls who can’t be away from home for more that two days before he starts crying and whinging. I can’t be doing with any of that.
When did I ever describe him as a “number 9” in the way you evidently imagine a “number 9” to be. I described (and included) him as a striker, which he is first and foremost. You’re the numpty who thought he was a winger and then went of on this weird old fashioned target man route. What do you mean “You've tried very hard to include everyone into your team bar Holt”?? I’ve left loads of players out! The “Barcelona talk” was to demonstrate that your “number nine” is largely a thing of the past and England need to improve tactically to compete. As for how you’d set them up, you could set them up however it lit your candle, because my squad covers all bases: players who can play defensive midfield players who can play attacking central midfield behind a forward, standard central midfield, wide in a 4-4-2, wide in an attacking 4-3-3 and so on. I can’t help it if I’m a genius and should be England manager in addition to the Prime Minister can I?
You’re probably right. Off course, I was taking into account injuries which is why Wilshere isn’t in (can cover literally any midfield role) and one or two more senior players.
We CANNOT play like Barcelona because our players aren't technically gifted enough. Thats a FACT. the number 9, leading the line, is clearly not dead. Ask Barcelona how they dealt with a "number 9" recently. Not well. I asked how YOU would set the team out, for the first game. I'm just interested in your opinion. Heres mine as an example --------------Hart------------- Walker,Ferdinand,Cahill,Cole -------Parker,Lampard------- ------------Gerrard----------- Young---------------Sturridge -------------Holt---------------
There are players who are ruled out and players who might make it - there are also players who will get injured before the tournament. No-one in my squad is ruled out as far as I know...
