Really tough game against a smart Italian team. I suspect we will need some genuine pace on the counter-attack to cause Italy problems so Oxade, Walcott, and Ashley Young are all so very important. 2-2 and then we'll let fate decide the rest.
England 0-0 Italy... Italy win 4-2 on penalties... So its the dreaded penalties that bring us back down to earth yet again...!!! But from a truthful prospective we were never in the game and to get to penalties was hiding the fact that we were light years behind the Italians. Im not sure if its a player thing, as in lack of really talented footballers, or the rigid 4-4-2 that Roy deployed. Football is a flowing game and having 2 banks of straight lines dos help in stopping sides but your asking a lot of the center mids to make any impression against the opposition in it. Probably a combination of both... Italy played with passion, England just played poor... Italy had movement all over, we just didnt move... Italy had the Mad Hatter Balotelli, England had a receding Wazza... I dont think that one English player out played his direct opponent last night and that should have us seriously worried for the future and where Roy will take us. Im just hoping that Roy played this system because of the players available and not because he thinks that this 4-4-2 system is the way forward. Anyway we are now down to the semi finals and it is a very strong line up, as it should be. Portugal v Spain is on Wednesday and then Germany v Italy go to battle on Thursday... Red, i would argue John Terry and Glen Johnson outplayed their counterparts but otherwise spot on....
England/Ireland have no creativity in midfeld,lack of players coming through especially with ireland which worries me.England have a few lads coming through so they have something to build on but i'm not to optimistic about our chances going forward on tapp,deprerssing stuff indeed! I think italy saved england getting a good spanking from germany so maybe they did you a favour

you could tell at the end that the England boys knew they were outclassed, they didn't seem too dispondant about the penalty loss. As Ste rightly observed perhaps better to go out Sunday rather than face greater umiliation at the hands of the Germans.
