It's worse the other way around mate. Without free trade we'd charge an import levy on goods coming in from the EU, but they'd charge a levy on the goods we export.

Therefore our exports would become uncompetitive in the EU market and our exports would suffer.

Given 44% of our exports go to the EU, and only 14% of the EU's total exports come to the UK, it leaves us with the ****ty end of that particular stick.

Add to that the fact that companies have based themselves here in order to have access to the free market. If a manufacturer faces the prospect of paying duty to export it's goods into the EU from it's UK base, then why come here in future and why stay here long term? Therefore global investment in the UK will fall off a cliff, as businesses seek to base themselves within the EU and have free access to the huge market of 27 Nations.

    I know.
I was trying to keep it simple Tobes <doh>
You used too many big words.

In laymans terms, without free movement, the **** we buy will cost more, a lot more.

No, it doesnt help at all because you dont understand the issue.
If we come to an agreement with the EU it will be on terms acceptable to all parties. The UK - given the referendum debate - will want to control our borders. The EU - given the amounts they sell to us more than we sell to them - will not want tariffs on their sales to us. Therefore, it is reasonable to suggest that it is in the interests of both parties to agree to have tariff free trading with no free movement. If either side is unwilling to agree to that then we can trade at WTO tariffs which will be in our favour.
Regarding bananas and Matalan jeans - they are bought from countries outside the EU so it has nothing to do with our EU agreements. It will depend on what deal is struck between the UK and the supplier countries and I am sure freedom of movement will not feature in the discussions with these countries which are in Africa and Asia.

Add the words "I think" to the end of that and there you go. "I hope" also works.

Fair enough, but the EU has already said it will not compromise on Free movement.....and it wont, trust me. It would set an awful precedent for the other member states, that they can have their cake and eat it.

I know bananas and matalan clothes are made outside of the EU (and probably 14" dildos too), I was just ****ing about <laugh>

So, as long as we still have Bananas and Matalan, we can tell the EU to shove their trade deal.

That's cheered me up to no end....

I glad Pete's cleared that up for me!...

I thought we voted to Leave or Remain

I must have missed the question about closing our borders to the EU scruffs, damn.

This is going to **** with Pete's mind. He's had all Leavers in one camp (Camp Sensible) and all Remainers in another camp (Camp Darky Lovers). Bodanki will be confusing the **** out of him.

Do you think we buy bananas and Matalan jeans from the other EU countries?
Maybe "thinking" is pushing it a bit.

In total revenue terms yes, as a percentage of the total of what they export, no.

A drop off in their collective exports to the UK would hurt them far less than a big drop off in the 44% of our total exports heading across the channel would hurt us. It's not complicated.

I was trying to keep things simple by using examples of **** that people buy.
To be honest I am not sure where Matalan jeans are made, but if I had to guess i'd say China, India or Pakistan

    Remain guy say one thing.
Rest of Remain guys agree with him.
Exit guy explains why he's talking rubbish.
Rest of Remain guys suddenly say: "It's nothing to do with us!"

This is on a continuous loop.
