I saw him play an exhibition at a WMC back in the 80s .
I think we paid 3 or 4 quid to watch , all hoping to see him get shot down.
He walked in off the street , took off his jacket and hammered all the best local dart players without losing a game.
What we didn't know was he'd been in the pub up the road practising for two hours before he turned up. He played darts with local lads
for free just as a warm up , and told them to wait till the morning before telling anybody he'd been in.
They all said he was a decent bloke , the cockiness was all for the stage.
