More info on the strain itself:

“Confirmation has also been received that the strain of the virus is the “Florida Clade 1” strain, which is endemic to North and South America, and is different from Clade 2 strain that is endemic to Europe. British horses are vaccinated against both Clade 1 and Clade 2, but this is clearly more virulent than the European strain and therefore able to affect vaccinated horses, though the vaccine will provide some protection. With out trying to diverge the thread i often wonder how different training methods are from stable to stable. I think they more or less follow the same patterns. The difference being some have a better eye and feel of the borse than the other and prepare them better?

Several cases confirmed in Europe. Recently a trotting yard in Northern France and during December and January various reports form Germany, Holland, France and Germany. Anyone's guess where it started.

Is there currently a vaccine against this "Florida Clade 1" strain? If yes, surely all horses in the yards which have it (to my best knowledge McCain and Crisford only) should get this vaccine ASAP and remain in lockdown until confirmed clean. Otherwise I would say those yards where all horses have tested negative can be allowed to race again as soon as is practically possible. If there isn't a vaccine against Florida Clade 1 then the McCain and Crisford yards must remain in lockdown until the horses are fit and well again and all other yards must be 100% tested. No idea how long that might take.......................
 
That all seems rather too simplistic oddy old boy.
The horse that Crisford took to Newcastle does not have the flu but 4 others have. It somehow got from McCain's to Newmarket! Until there is a complete all clear the yards have to remain in lockdown with people also regulated with regards to travelling between yards.

Oddy, it's all over the place; not just McCain and Crisford, and can be transported anywhere. Probably transporters that carried most of the infections

weird situation, ireland doesn’t have the vaccination programme , so no sanctions need apply , whereas if the bha still prevents racing here , but horses from here go to ireland where there is potential for infection , do they stop those stables from future runners back here ???

I really cannot understand this scenario. Why would the Irish invite British runners when there is the potential for them to bring the virus with them?

I'm assuming they'll need to pass tests before being allowed in? Can't believe Ireland would be going against any scientific advice it would have been given.

Very strange. Must admit thought it was also weird that there was about 4-5 english horses they let race in france too
 
Unless I am reading it all wrong the article regarding the situation in Ireland is stating that two yards there are currently suffering with equine flu cases. Only makes the invitation all the more ridiculous.
If this is not contained you can kiss Cheltenham goodbye.
