I decided to go for it with a £10 win on astrology plus £10 free from Skybet. Nice if it had come in. But .....I also backed it each way for £10. Layout £30 Recieved £26.25. So for a bit of excitement in something I would of neverwise watched I lost £3.75. Good value. If he had won I would of received £206.25. I would of kicked myself if it won and I didn't back it after last weeks prediction. Keep 'em coming Eddie, no pressure mate.

I was in the exactly same boat as you and covered my arse EW for the place, resulting in only a $1 loss, but was in for a chance of a $120 payday!

Now on a Greyhound racing note, while watching the Portugal vs. Turkey international friendly today, I selected three Trap 6 winners @ 7/1, 10/1 and 11/2 - only $2 wagers, purely on the basis that Blonde Snapper (I believe a designated wide runner) started from Trap 6 last week.

Amazing Kilburn, is the trap 6 thing, widely known or did you just get lucky?

Just stupid luck on my part no doubt. My understanding is that these "designated wide runner" greyhounds generally start in Trap 5 or 6. I was thinking Trap 6 is closest to that damn mechanical hare, so there could be some kind of advantage. Also Eddie's wonderful Blonde Snapper, who I believe is a designated wide runner, started in Trap 6 last week. I realize that this is not at all scientific.

Nice one Kilburn, a very logical approach. Bear in mind, however, that Trap 6 has slightly further to travel to get to pole position on the first bend. So when they all scrum at that first corner, a truly wide runner can sometimes avoid any trouble. Alternatively, and usually for the ones that I back, it can get bumped to the back of the queue.
As you say, all down to luck really.....:)

Yes, after watching a few races, I have seen some nice Bartonesque moves as the Trap 6 dog cuts across the rest of the pack. Yesterday evening (Newcastle & Crayford), the consensus was that Trap 2 actually chalked up the most victories.

This looks like a useful Greyhound website:-

Actually it would be kind of fun to own a dog and bring it to the meets - one like Blonde Snapper would be great!.

    Bartonesque moves.....nice vocabulary!!
If I were going to back a dog blind then I would go for 6 every time.....it's a bit like jockeys who try and stay wide and out of trouble in the National!!

3.45 Cartmel today another chance for a decent eachway payout. Beginners chase, odds on favourite. None of the six runners have completed their last two races......big prices available!!

In case anyone is following this, it's 25/1 bar two. So if either of the first two make a mistake (2nd fav has been pulled up 3 of last 4 times) then there's a big price in the places!!

Read this at work, but too late to place a wager from home at lunchtime due to time difference - great strategy on your part 1/4 odds on a 50/1 3rd place would not be shabby.

Not that great, only 6 runners so 1/4 odds for 1st and 2nd only. Backed 2nd at 16s though!!

Gotta love poor old Paddy the Plumber pulling up!

So with EW betting, say $5 EW, does $5 go for the win and $5 for the place at 1/4 of the odds (here only 2nd, not 3rd) for a total outlay of $10?

Yes. Depending on number of runners, sometimes 1/5.
