Derry's challenge wasn't even borderline, Young's dive was a physical impossibility...

Ok, I played the game for 11 years many a year ago.
My point is that no one is 'expected to go down'.
You only go down when you are genuinely brought down and the fact is, when this happens, you are the last to know about it, hence the reason you fall down ( you don't have time to settle or re adjust)

Anyway, just my opinion on it .................. probably doesn't apply these days.

Ah yes, but in his defence he was one of ours, not like that other lot who play for other clubs, the rascals....

Michael Owen has just come out with that line on MOTD. He joins an inglorious band which includes Gareth Bale and practically every commentator, pundit and Manager in the game.

They shouldn't be allowed get away with telling lies about the games official rules.

As sb_73 says earlier in the thread it's 'football people' talking to each other rather than relating to the real people that pay their wages. Wouldn't it make great TV for MOTD to have an ordinary fan (I'd volunteer) on to challenge this bollox?

    It sure would Stroller.

Its also a problem for British football analysis too. We've had this discussion on here before and I find the analysis to be basically a love-in between mates who dare not disagree with each other. An exception to this would be Robbie Savage who at least doesn't mind thinking for himself now and again.

All you'd need is one half-decent analyst to challenge this "contact" assumption and then stand his ground and that alone would be enough to open up a debate about the subject. As a result of that, pressure would begin to be asserted on players and managers alike who condone such behavior and maybe things would start to change. At the moment its just accepted that "that's the way it is" and nobody speaks out against what is effectively cheating.
