During the Euros before one of Spain's games, Chiles asked Stracchen if he ever fielded a Saints team without a striker (like Spain). He said "no, it just seemed like that".

    LOL

Going back before Banks and Shilton there was another great by the name of Frank Swift.

In his mit it's like a pea, big Frank Swift of Manchester City.

There is not a lot to choose between Banks and Yashin or lets put it this way I wouldn't like to stake my life on the difference!!
Shilton would be up there too but probably 4/5th.

I thought about this long and hard for all of 2 seconds and have to say that for me it is without question Gordon Banks.

I wear an Iffyton t shirt with his picture on it when knocking about indoors. The image below is from their on line catalogue which is worth a visit for its football t shirts alone.

I was going to say that their t shirts are far nicer than Saints new home kit but will resist so doing as I know a number of you are very sensitive about this matter and get very touchy when I raise it.

It is an Oscar Wilde quote and I often quote it to my granddaughters who believe they know everything and think what on earth could an old fellow like me know..

I believe he died in the Munich air crash. He was a reporter at the time.

Very good point. Ron Greenwood tended to alternate between Shilton and Clemence. Poor Joe Corrigan barely got a look in!

Old enough to just watch Banks at the (sad) end of his career and around when Shilt's was at his best; close call between them. Once got drunk with a group of Germens at a ski resort in Austria back in the early 80's (who were at the 1966 WCF) they talked about the Pele save in 1970 and were of the very firm opinion that Banks was the best goalkeeper they had ever seen - that does it for me.
