Out of those, I'd say that only Lallana has the merest chance of making the senior England squad during their careers. There is a World Cup 2014 qualifier against San Marino next year, I'd love to see a Lallana/Chamberlain reunion. They complement each other perfectly and would blow San Marino away. ...................Hart.................... Richards...Smalling...Jones...Cole .................Parker................... ........Wilshere...McEachrane...... Chamberlain...................Lallana .................Rooney.................. I'd love to see that. Loads more flair and proactive movement in midfield than the usual England guff. That would be worth watching whatever the result.
I know I'm a bit late on this, but it is interesting reading all the thoughts on as to why England are essentisally inept come competition proper. Likemost here it would seen that my energy and hope is with our beloved Saints, and what a gret time to be a fan. But......there is a bit of me that is still frustrated that come international competition time, there isn't that excitement that England might genuinely compete, and believe it. Like seconstain said, Germany actually manage to do this with teams that don't boast incredible players througout. It's complex, but I wish it was more simple as the temptation is to blame one thing only. The media is obviously a problem. It helps to perpetuate the cult of instant success whilst simultaneously looking to expose someone (player) for something/anything in the reality tv individulist culture that Saintjack has made interseting comments on. Although I'm not sure that the Premiership lacks soul, maybe its going that way, but there still seems to be passion there although the money side has become a bit insane. Maybe it believes its own hype too much (as do the players) which may then render world/Europen cup less important. Not sure. In terms of players playing abroad, it think that may help in some cases, in terms of them 'coming home' (no pun intended) to feel the love for their country. However, for Spain (best team in the world) this doesn't apply. Most already play there. Maybe young hungry players is the answer, more passion and will to success without the huge weight of expectation that is felt by the has beens that have unfortunately never delivered. Need an English manager. Hasn't worked going down the foreign route, the problem is within, not from without.
