Sad reality isn't it. The story of Henderson is a perfect example, consecutive managers choose the one **** player in a star-studded team and expect wondrous results. Winks gets game time, Lascelles does not. I know who's more deserving
It's not a new thing. It was never more apparent than when Theo Walcott was selected for the 2006 World Cup at the age of 16 having played 23 games for Southampton in the Championship and having never played a single game for Arsenal. If he had still been at Southampton would he have gone to the World Cup. Not a chance. Utter ****ing joke.
Ever since the 'Rooney Rise' any youngster that joins a big team only has to fart in the direction of the England manager and get picked. We're so desperate to recreate that experience of him and Owen breaking through. The reality is its ****ing rare. They then tend to play on for years and years with us still waiting on the moment they're suddenly going to wake up a world class star; Henderson, Wilshere, Sturridge, Walcott, Ox, Delph plays 3 games in a different position, but for a big club so gets picked as one of our midfielders. ****ing dumb.
Could be worse - the USA just failed to qualify (from the easiest region) due to a 2-1 loss to Trinidad and Tobago. We're ****e but at least we're not that ****e
Netherlands out. I'm not arsed but easily ine of the best 32 teams - makes you wonder about the qualifying system. Italy only through to the play offs. A couple of the big teams being out will make England's march to lifting the cup a little easier.
There’s something wrong with the qualifying system when France, Sweden and Holland end up in same group and England are grouped with Slovakia, Slovenia, scotland Lithuania and Malta. Glad that the USA have been eliminated. The CONCACAF region is very difficult not to qualify from unless you have a population of less than 11 so to see them get knocked out is funny. Think the South American qualifying system is the fairest although no way big European clubs would accept 18 qualifying games.
UEFA agree, so they'll be doing the nations league soon. If you look at the rules it effectively guarantees the likes of Holland won't be able to have a world cup/euros off like they do every few years. The status quo is restored
So how will that work? I heard that Wales will be in the 2nd Division which means that Scotland must be in Blue Circle Cement North 1.
Just a league, a league of nations. Honestly my knowledge is quite sketchy but it's another route to qualifying that will run along with the current system. Except this is through the medium of crap friendlies. The teams that will finish at the top of it will no doubt have already qualified through the old system which means a team finishing 13th overall in this 'friendlies league' could end up qualifying. Another opportunity. Or some ****.
