Somehow I missed the Wilshere high points, I must pay more attention in future. You were robbed, it should have been six, Lalas goal was legit.
You don't deny it was a good'n though, as I said I haven't been impressed by him, but you never know what a bit of confidence can do.
Biggest disappointment was Clyne not getting the Cap he has deserved, saving him for the next game perhaps?
Me too, I really don't get the hype with him tbh, how long can someone be classed as 'potential'? As for being robbed, I can deal with that as it pissed Adam off Thought Chambers had a poor game tonight. Hopefully Nat gets his chance on Sunday.
Oh dear, 14/1 for England to win the Euros. I wonder how many people out there were drunk enough to have a punt on that
I watched it with 1 minute to go. The aftermath was enough for me. Right down to that pedestrian theme tune. I thought about what things could get me enthused about watching England, short of having it filled with Saints players. 1] Get rid of ITV. They couldn't cover a sporting event properly if their franchise depended upon it. Pedestrian [again], tired, unimaginative and those wonderful adverts that I'd rather eat my TV than watch. 2] I think the first one covers it all really. I'm a commercial TV free zone. Honestly, if the rest of the population were like me, ITV would have long bit the dust. As for England, seems that I ask too much..? With just that one minute to go I saw England running around doing their usual thing. It didn't even look that pretty. They managed to lose the ball fairly easily. Any decent Interenational team would wipe the floor with them. Tell me I'm wrong.
You're not wrong TSS. In the first half Wilshere was his usual profligate self, giving the ball away like it was Christmas. He changed to a more holding role in the second half and gave the ball away a bit less, so the difference must have prompted his being given MOTM by the witless Andy Townsend. The only penetration came with TB and Oxo coming on, but they didn't create as many chances as the poor defence should gave allowed. Townsend's goal was a good one but he didn't do much else. All in all, winning 5-0 against a sub-Conference side just isn't good enough. This group will, as usual, lull us into thinking we are going to do something at the Euro's and we will be humiliated again.
I agree that ITV's coverage is god awful. Thank **** the FA Cup is back on the beeb this season As for the Euros, I imagine we'll sail through the group, possibly get past 1 ko game (due to there being more teams this time round) before the inevitable loss on penalties / thrashing to the 1st team of real substance we meet
Thanks Chilco. I saw the flavour of all of this in the 1 minute of football. The aftermath showed an interview from Wilshere where he was floored by the questions, even though they were the usual prosaic, unimaginative crap from ITV. Really, he should have trotted out a decent answer without thinking, but he was exhausted from being as sh!te as I had imagined him in the previous 89 minutes. Andros Townsend gave him the red piece of Vauxhall that presumably was trying to be champagne, and they couldn't stay to say anything about it, so keen were they to f*** off. That's England and England players for you. If they can't be bothered, I can't be... no, hang on. I can't be bothered anyway because I'm out of patience, enthusiasm and anything that pertains to being onside. I'm only typing still because I can't think of a pithy way to stop.
My son's first England game and within ten minutes he was more interested in trying to spot the band inthe crowd. The first half was inexcusable. Wrong team selection and wrong decisions by players on the pitch. Second half was better when the two academy players came on. We won and scored five, so fair enough, but really disappointed in England. When a team that is that much inferior plays against you and just sits back, you have to move the ball forward and wide quickly and deliver it early into the box. This and have players who are in space run at defenders. We didn't in the first half, we just knocked it sideways. So many times players who were wide could have delivered it into the box first time, didnt. Against decent opposition I understand that you sometimes need to be a little more composed, but against San Marino, they give it back to you within 30 seconds of you losing it. Wagamamas was good though.
I agree that Wilshere looked much better when he was the deep midfielder in the second half however that was because from there he wasn't running into defences and was passing over them. On the flip side I would not want to guess what would happen if the opposition was a quality where he would need defensive strengths and capabilities in that DM position......eek. The other eek is.............Townsend will now reach 100 caps before he gets another 100 PL starts. Scored 2 goals against major opposition and its a no brainer. The only + was Lallana's 'goal' being disallowed because Chambers was offside by the old rules. p.s. also agree Wellbeck > Sturridge......another <>
Thought Milner played a very good game, but its hard playing against a team that not only parks the bus, but deflates the tires as well. Thier only aim was not to recieve a spanking
