I predicted to a fellow supporter before the competition - England weak draw with Russia, lose to Wales and then draw with Slovakia - going home with 2 points and tail between legs. Roy then retires from international football and settles down on the South coast to manage a premiership team currently looking for a manager ....... <yikes>

    Sometimes I hate myself ................

You're right. I said he shouldn't be in the squad, let alone team. However, that was if Roy was going to persist in playing him as a striker, which, from way back, it seemed he was determined to do. Look elsewhere for my comments on him playing in attacking midfield, where I would have played him his entire England career.

Relax, you're not Nostradamus. It's called pessimism. A couple of decent results often cures the condition, temporarily at least.

And also, if one looks back on past experience, one can decide whether pessimism is the right attitude to take. Pessimism's only virtue is that when one is disappointed it is merely a confirmation of what one felt all along. I certainly couldn't live like that. I'd have to chuck away all the knives and glass. ;)

Now we have paid professionals agreeing with us:

    BBC Football writer Phil McNulty

    Did Hodgson cost England victory?
England manager Roy Hodgson got plenty right with a positive selection and the decision to play Rooney in midfield reaped a rich reward - but his boldest move may also have been his biggest mistake.
He removed Rooney straight after Dier's goal and introduced Wilshere in an attempt to retain possession, but Rooney was the player giving England control and while it was a warm night in the south of France, the 30-year-old looked fresh and fit for the fight.
True, it was a sucker punch that cost England victory but experience is needed to close out crucial wins and ultimately they did not manage it.

This punditry game is dead easy. ;)

I think Rooney was beginning to fade, so quite reasonable to replace him when we looked nailed on to win. If we had won, no one would be saying anything. Not everything in life works out.

I HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE Spurs.

It hurt a bit with 5 of their players in the starting 11 yesterday but I have to say they done well, Kane didn't have the best of games but warranted his place. Dier and Ali were very good as were the full backs.

If England do go far in this competition then as well as hodgson getting all the plaudits, a certain Argentinean deserves some praise.

Poch has shown his faith and trust in young English talent and has brought these players careers on greatly. There are other players he has given the chance to as well.

Pochettino is a very good manager as we all have seen first hand and as much as I want him and his team to fail I applaud him.

Taken from Ugly Inside: A response from the Football Supporters Association to media reporting of the trouble in France....pointing out that in every case the trouble was initiated by attacks on England supporters by French and Russian hooligans...and that the police did nothing other than fire indiscriminate water cannons and gas. They made no attempt to arrest the perpetrators.

The last statement is supported by the fact that only 17 people have been arrested over 3 days of violence.

Yep, we're England fans. Beat Wales 4-0 and we'll be declaring ourselves World Champs. Then lose to Slovakia :)

Coverage on Sky supporting the Supporters Association. The owner of one bar smashed up says he didn't know the men who started it, but they weren't English fans. A group of masked men just attacked people at random sitting eating and drinking outside. Others said the same thing...and some windows had stickers put on it depicting Russian Ultra groups. I'm sure some England fans weren't blameless, but it was started by others. Let's hope the French police do better in keeping hooligans away on Thursday....because they clearly have no idea how to manage these situations. As pointed out, if Russians can get rockets into the stadium, Islamists can surely get a bomb in.

The England fan who underwent CPR in the street yesterday is alive, but is in an induced coma. He's a Pompey fan and a Hampshire boy.

Thoughts with him and his family.

If ever there was an event where Saints fans should show their support toward a Pompey man it is this. Thoughts and best wishes with him and his family.
