absolutely ! Visit my mum who still lives there, not as often as I should though.
a much under valued part of the country.
looking back, I realise how lucky I was growing up in such a wonderful place.

I hear you on that Pershore.
I grew up in the fields and back roads of Suffolk, in times when I could just leave my bike anywhere I wanted without a lock and it would be there when I got back. I didn't have to worry about anything really. Ten pence in my pocket in case I needed to call home and tell them I'd be late for tea and I was off anywhere I wanted. Grew up in Saxmundham but regularly took my bike all over the place, my favourite stomping grounds being Leiston, Aldeburgh or Framlingham. Those were the days, I rode that green lizard mountain bike all over the coastal side of the county.

    I agree Pershore.

Suffolk is one of the most beautiful counties in the country and some of the villages are just like hidden gems waiting to be discovered! From constable country up to Southwold and Aldeburgh and across to Newmarket Heath. Sorry just feeling a little bit homesick for the mother county all of a sudden!

    I'll <wah> with you JWM.
I do miss the area and maybe I will choose to retire back there when the time comes.
Oh for the carefree days of my childhood again.

You have far more reason to be homesick SD <ok>

I left Suffolk 30 years ago and I will definitely be coming home when I retire! I'm only currently on loan to West Sussex! <laugh> Just don't tell the missus!

Please don't talk about loans here, you'll start them off <laugh>

In all seriousness, I doubt whether I could get my wife to retire there so something's gotta give, I still have plenty of years to work on that though.

She's a San Diegan and can't stand the rain for more than a couple of days. I fear that my retirement funds will get swallowed up by the health system here as I get older. The weather will be good for the old bones though...........when I get there.

My brother in law lives in Santa Monica and he has already said that there is no way he's returning to England.

JJ the reason Glemsford is known as Little Egypt is because many years ago the Glemsford men had to walk to Sudbury to vote in an election, by the time they had done that and got back as far as Long Melford the pubs were open and they started drinking, and caused so much trouble that the soldiers billeted in Sudbury were called out.
The officer called on the men to disperse and read the riot act but the Glemsford men promptly attacked the soldiers and by the time order was restored the soldiers reckoned it was a much harder fight than they experienced in Egypt, thats how it got its name.

    SD,

My mum was born in Saxmundham.

we would leave our homes early in the morning & never get home till late, not a care in the world.

Where I live now is really nice, out the front door over a road & into the fields of Worcestershire. Views of the Malvern Hills. Nearly good enough, but not quite.
