Thought the match last night was a watershed for England with certain player proving they are not going to provide us with what we need if we are going to threaten anyone in major championships.

Lampard and Barry must never again be paired together. They are too slow, predictable, run in straight lines and unimaginative. Barry might be useful as the sole holding player although I prefer Parker or Willshere, but Lampard has had it.

Ashley Cole was truly dreadful last night, very poor at defending and constantly gave the ball away when in pesession. Pleeeeeeeeese, pleeeeeeeese play Baines in future.

Milner, just what does he bring to the table? (as some manager used to say!!)

On the plus side I thought Cahill and Smalling were excellent. They were technically good, imaginative going forward and assured in defending.

Ashley Young looked a threat up front. Downing was shyte but did provide the one piece of true skill in the first half that produced the goal.

    All in all VERY disappointing.

i ****ing went to my first england game in 12 years and I can guarantee my next one will be in at least another 12.

What a ****ing waste of money

took longer to get there and back despite living in london than actually being in the stadium.

no beer- carlsberg official sponsor of england my ass

the team did not give a ****. Only player who did was milner and smalling, with young also doing ok.

I've never felt so robbed. It was just pathetic. Yeh we won, but it was that bad that I wanted wales to score to get them going.

I'm still pretty pissed off. THank **** i got pissed afterwards and forgot the boredom

as for the team... they weren't bothered. it was more obvious at the match than on telly. walking around, scared of being injured probably. it was pathetic.
Lampard is absolutely ****E, he should never put an england shirt on again, he's gone that's it. just accept it frank.
Barry is the most boring player, he made some good defensive shot blocks but otherwise i'd be wary.

the team wasn't good. why not play hungry players? carroll? agbonlahor who's on form?
our best team is the team that is gonna give a **** and play for the shirt.

Get rid of cole, lampard, terry, barry, rooney (if he's not bothered)

my highlight is gary cahill. i didn't realise but the guy is ****ing class.

i'd like a team of hungry young players like germany have

a team like this would have smashed wales last night

    ---------------hart

    richards-cahill-smalling-baines

    Milner--Parker-cleverly----Young

    ------Bent (fit)--Welbeck--------

Sorry, but Wayne Rooney is a as passionate an England player as you could wish to get.

What happens sometimes with him is he gets freustrated with how shyte the rest of the team are.

At one point last night he came deep into midfield to get the ball got tackled by 3 walsh midfielders and ran all the way back to Ashley Coles' left back position and won the ball back.

That meant he was out of position more and more as the game wore on because hewas fed up of constantly getting poor service, but it shows the effort he puts in for "the team".

Like that team, by the way, I would change it slightly though. I would play Adam Johnson down the left, Young down the right and play Caroll up front with Rooney.
Oh, and as promising as Cleverley is, he aint ready yet and would be behind Jack Willshere in my team.

Agree with Strovolos, everyone is desperate to jump on Rooney's back because of all the crap he gets from the media, but in reality him and Terry are two of the most committed players out there, especially for England. I also thought Cahill was class last night.

I quite like Capello's 4-5-1/4-3-3 he's got going recently, but the players have to change every match and it can't be good that almost every game we play is played with an entirely new XI that have never played together before.

I'm pretty sure when we beat Germany ten years ago we had the same first XI for ages and it was actually a rarity when someone was missing through injury. You could argue that any 3 of Rooney, Carroll, Bent, Young, Downing, Johnson and even Welbeck could be considered first choice to play up front. Equally it could be any 3 of Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, Parker, Milner, Wilshere who play in midfield. It's only the back 5 you could ever consider as settled.

The reality of the situation is that no matter what people want to believe about how awful our national team is, the players are as good as any other country but we just need a bit of continuity, and preferably for the entire country to not be so desperate to criticise them at every opportunity, and it'll click.

I was also there last night but only have myself to blame as I've been several times before and it's always that ****e - I always come away feeling completely cheated - if the players don't give a **** why should I?

I was more entertained by the obscenely fat pissed guy further down my row who kept getting up and then was either too pissed or stupid to remember where he was sitting so ended up stacking it numerous times while trying to climb / jump between rows. It was about as effective as a Frank Lampard incisive pass but a lot funnier.

haha yeh in the end you have to find your own entertainment at wembley.

for me micah richards is the best right back we have

cahill and smalling are class acts actually and left back is not ideal but ashely cole is a ****ing div.

I agree about rooney, he's our best player and i'd play him all the time but last night he didn't seem very bothered...

midfield is clear to me play one defensive midfielder and one attacking. not two defensive.

i have nowt against barry he\s nothing exceptional, would probably prefer a slightly faster player, who can tackle though.

but sideways ****ing fat lampard needs to piss off with his chelsea chums. he's done nothing all game.

interesting to see gerrard coming back. scott parker did good and someone like cleverley should be given a chance imo.

on the wings we're quite lucky to be fair. young, walcott, downing, johnson, milner, lennon.

i'd have young and johnson also on the wings. walcott if he's on form.

up front, bent's a poacher, caroll did ok but i don't rate him, defoe can be excellent on his day

i'd go for whoever rooney feels comfortable with to be fair.

You could put together a decent England team using only Manchester based players now:

    Hart
    Smalling Jones Ferdinand Bridge
    Milner Hargreaves Cleverley Young
    Rooney Welbeck

Amos Barry Lescott Onuoha Richards Owen Johnson

I quite liked the 4-2-3-1 England played with the past two games and I'd continue with that formation. However the team does get constantly changed and messed about with so with a bit of consistency in the team selection you could actually see better performances. I'd drop: Downing, Lampard, Smalling and maybe Young from the starting team (Not cos I don't rate them) and go with:

    Hart
    Richards Cahill Terry Cole
    Wilshere Parker
    Johnson Rooney Walcott/Young (I couldn't care really)
    Bent
