Same as always played in patches tonight, why can't we find a world class striker like Suarez, didn't exert himself & does what does best score, still Charlie in next World Cup!

I always get the feeling watching England that most players could do without the hassle of a world cup and would rather be on holiday with their wives/girlfriends. They'd deny it but it's true. No other country would have this and you can tell when you're watching. USA, Australia, South Korea - they don't have half the players we do but they're out there fighting, screaming, jumping up and down and generally bleeding enjoying themselves. You're at a world cup for ****s sake.

I guess, realistically, a repeat performance of 1966/67, when England won the World Cup and the R's the League Cup at Wembley was never really on the cards this time around.

I'm over the disappointment - now looking forward to following the remainder of the World Cup, plus the anticipation of the R's back in the Premier League with all the pre-season transfer activity.

totally agree. suarez is brilliant but it was the ****e defending that's let us down this time. 5 odd defenders against 2 for goal number 1 (how did he get that cross in against 3 england defenders??) and daydreaming from the back 2 and some **** keeping from hart for number 2.

kept the ball better than in previous world cups but what we gain on the swings we lose on the roundabouts as my mum says.

Bizarrely, the result doesn't make so much difference in terms of getting out of the group. Italy win by a couple against both Costa Rica and Uruguay, we win by a couple against Costa Rica.........who the **** am I kidding, why on earth should that happen. We don't deserve to go through, decent show against Italy but never enough class, and simply not good enough against an average team except for Suarez tonight. And I reckon that Campbell for Costa Rica could run Jagielka ragged.

From someone on the outside looking in ( ..... and as England being my second team behind Australia ) ...... can I say what you are already probably thinking.

The biggest problem England have had is not the players BUT the manager.
From day one Roy is not a go getter, he is mediocre at best, so regardless of how good the team players are, Roy is going to grind all players down to his level.

It really is as simple as that.
A champion team with a decent manager will always beat a team of champions if they are coach a lessor manager.
Roy would be ideal in the armed forces, treat everyone the same, tow the line and all that........... well, it doesn't work in football.

England need a positive, proactive, motivational manager who CAN get the BEST out of the team.
Someone who can massage egos and talk it up when needed and someone who can get stuck into a player and fire them up.

Roy has never been about any of these attributes, Roy has always been about pleasing the establishment and all that stuff ........ tally ho old chap, your out!
England desperately need someone like José Mourinho, who deflect attention when needed and make it happen when the time is right.
Yes, he's a drama queen himself but that is what you need to handle the in's and out's of a team of individuals like England.

This of course is just my opinion which means zip but is said with the desire to see England succeed.

A good post Aussie and bang on the money, Roy is like a wet weekend in Blackpool (and some people like those), I am not advocating that we have water bottle-kicking maniac on the touchline but this guy just has no passion. The England team also lacks a leader, I´m gonna get shot here but with John Terry at least he put his heart in the task. However, the overriding issue is the number of foreign players in the Premiership until this is capped per team the England team will continue to fall behind.

Just heard Redknapp give his useful tuppence ha'penny worth on the radio. Hodgson shouldn't resign, but Rodgers or Martinez should be manager and we should play like Liverpool (or Everton). Thank The Lord, he rules himself out of contention for the role while suggesting an Irishman or a Spaniard for the job, for which he thinks there shouldn't be a vacancy. He ties himself in knots on this subject in his book as well, saying he wanted it but wouldn't have liked it, supporting Roy but slagging him off etc etc. Open wound, methinks, but its too late now H, no use crying over spilt milk, water under the bridge, a bird in the bush......

Then his match analysis 'Suarez was the difference'. Bravo.

It would be nice if England or Spurs could play without Harry commenting. I don't mind Harry too much but he does himself no favours with his media work.

Anyway - here's my tuppence worth..

England look shaky every time a team applies any amount of pressure on them. At the start of each half and in the little period before their second goal they looked like rabbits in the headlights trying to smash the ball anywhere rather than think about where it might end up. Gerrard and Henderson don't offer enough cover for the full backs, Johnson and Baines both looked nervous about heading forward - it's notable that we only really looked dangerous when they joined in for a bit.

I actually thought Rooney did ok - he looked like a man given a pardon on a death sentence when he scored. He started to find space in the second half and between him and Sturridge they did start to make chances....hope perhaps?? I've given up on hope and England a long time ago!

Getting some calm, solid defenders into that team is a must for Roy. I just don't think the players are out there at the moment for England though. Hopefully Shaw will build and get better, Walker can get some form back and someone somewhere manages to unearth a young central defender that is capable of playing at this level.

Build a solid base and this team could do ok...who knows maybe we'll reach a quarter final some day.

If England are out, it feels totally different from the last world cup. After the last one, I couldn't or didn't want to watch England for AGES. I just couldn't bring myself to watch. I was too disappointed. After this one, I'm not disappointed. I think we have good foundations for a decent future and maybe a good run in the next Euros.

Also, I'm proud of how fairly England have played. Apart from Sturridge, there has been no diving or rolling around, even when we could have. None of our players have surrounded the referee at any point, even though some bad decisions have gone against us (for example, Uruguay should have had a player sent off yesterday). In this respect, we've stood out in the tournament as a fair team who doesn't complain. I'm proud that we play that way.

They're just not good enough - the coaching systems haven't produced any world class players for 20 years. At least there seems to be the will at the FA to try and change the coaching aspects finally.

Stan explained them before but to be honest, they didn't seem very valid to me. Some people simply don't like the "Geezer" in him. Is there an element of snobbishness? I would say so (not referring to Stan btw). The Del Boy character in Redknapp is exactly what I like about him.

Football would be much worse off without people like him in the game. Imagine what it'd be like if it was populated by public schoolboy types? :(

I'm not sure how I feel about this. It is frustrating that referees do not seem to be able to make a correct decision based on the incident. The Uruguayan should have received a 2nd yellow. You can be certain that if it had been the other way round, the Uruguayan player would have been rolling around clutching his throat or face, the English player being pushed around and the referee surrounded, who would then show a 2nd yellow/red. Part of me feels that our players should react exactly the same way. However there is also a part of me that is proud that we do not. But you don't get any points for fair play.

By the way I'm not blaming our almost certain exit on this. We are simply not good enough to progress. It's just one aspect of the game that I wanted to pick up on. Another visible failing of FIFA. Another 5 years of Blatter is depressing and damaging.
