Anyways, ignoring Rooney for the time being, San Marino scored a goal.

you mean the clown that got the assist on Rooney's first ever England goal?
the clown that's still playing Championship level football at 37?

    You're shooting from the hip.
As of today, Rooney has score d 5 penalties for England. Charlton scored 3 I believe. You bring up breaking the record by scoring 2 "suspect penalties" as an issue ? FFS.
Rooney was injured after a few minutes in one of the tournaments he played in. Discount that.
England were more competetive in the tournaments Charlton played in, which seems to suggest Rooney was in weaker teams.
It's something to applaud his 50 goals. You're coming up with as many negatives as you can to deflate that.
PS. Question for you. Why are you bringing up the point about me watching said tournaments ? How dp you know I haven't, or is this just another one of your obtuse attempts to prove some point ?
    Amazing.

Gary Lineker won the Golden Boot in 1986, he's still the greatest for me

I was just watching this - it turned out to be Charlton's last goal for England as he didn't find the net in the 1970 World Cup. Think the camera was just crap or it really was that dark?

Well, you suggesting I was only 11 years old. How do you know if that is true, or is that another of your obtuse attempts to prove some point?

I'm off now mate, good night.

I tend to agree, just saw his 48 came in 80 games! He was the master of tap ins. Shearer my second best striker & Rooney probably 3rd. It's probably just one of those things where you criticise a player & have fond memories of them after they're gone! Owen's another one, he scored some nice goals, but at times was **** as well!
I'm talking in my time so I can really only remember back to '86!

I know it's not true. You recognize it as sarcasm Quill, that's true. Your comment about "if you watched the 'effing tournaments" or words to that effect certainly wasn't sarcasm was it ?

One worth mentioning is Jimmy Greaves, 44 goals in 57 appearances.

You need to ask SCB for some lessons in "proper" swearing. He's the current world champion -- he told me so. But he's not very good at anything else.

That's because Little Quilly is one of SCB's 'top' followers.

... conurbations ... But still, "urban conurbations" ??? ... Was it you that was waffling about doing Latin in school? This isn't up to your usual high standard. Is it second-bottle syndrome?

Dixie Dean - 18 goals in fewer appearances (16) another worth mentioning. Two hat-tricks to boot.

Great achievent from a very good player, to score that many is excellent and to have played as many game by 30 also excelletnt, but unless he performs in a major tournament he will in the eyes of many never be the striker charlto, lineker or greaves were, the goals to games ratio doesn't compare and euro 04 aside not done anything at a tournament
