Jesus Christ some of you lot are negative, as yet England are undefeated in the Euros with one of the worst squads in ages. We just won a tough game against strong opponents, stop whining and enjoy it! Plus OUR academy product changed the game...
Rooney is undoubtedly a class player. I won't waste any time considering the opinions of someone who thinks otherwise.
I said at the start at the start if the tournament to a few mates that England would get to the Semis, and Germany would win! What a game tonight! Incredible response! What I like about the England squad is that they're made up of players that bring something different tithe squad; ie pace, height, strength etc. They're players that WANT to play and don't give up.
Precisely this. I know we showed a fair few weakness and do look rocky at times, but considering RH has had just 40 days or so with the team he's not doing badly. If we get out the group and then go out I wouldn't say that's a bad tournament given the build up and injuries. Main thing in tournament football is to get points on the board and get the results. Weaknesses can be worked on but you don't need to be faultless. It's not quite like a 46 game league season where you will get found out eventually, in a tournament just win each game as it comes and see how far you can get before you do get sussed or your luck runs out (if it does at all). Greece and Denmark have done notably well in the past without necessarily having the best technical players.
It sort of feels like a change. Like remember Saints years ago would concede a goal and then collapse; but now we have a never say die attitude and England showed exactly the same thing tonight! Very good to see!
Also I would say not to throw Rooney into the team against Ukraine. Leave things be and if it isn't working the change it around. Never change a winning team
I said exactly the same. The team will be so much stronger and more confident after that comeback as well. We have Rooney back, and suddenly the team is looking quite good - Welbeck, Walcott, Chamberlain, Gerrard, Johnson, Cole, all appear to be in terrific form. Still, if we don't top the group, we'll have a tough time getting past Spain.
Agree. Considering how little time Roy has had and that if we look at potential squad members who are injured: Ruddy Walker Rodwell Wilshere Barry Lampard Bent Although I guess some could be moved on with regards to England following this tournament, if we let Roy stamp his defensive style and get the structure right with the young talent we have, I think we could have quite a respectable team in the coming years.
A full strength England side, for me, looks like this: Young-----Rooney-----Walcott --Wilshere--Parker--Gerrard Cole--Cahill--Lescott--Walker -----------Hart----------- That's gonna win you some ****.
Drop Jones in favour of Wilshere I think. I know he likes to get forward but I wouldn't be comfortable with Jones in holding midfield. Pull Wilshere back and play someone else. Apart from that it looks good, although I don't think Rooney can play up top like that due to his inclination to drop off into midfield. I'd say, if we're looking to discussing a team for the future, possibly: Hart Walker Cahill Lescott Cole Chamberlain Rodwell Wilshere Young Rooney Welbeck (who if I am honest I didn't rate beforehand, but has impressed me under Hodgson) Do we have any really good left-backs coming through? Cole is world class I think, but Baines isn't really great. Bertrand? Anyone else? Gibbs?
