I can't agree with that, but why oh why is Glen Johnson still in the team? He is supposedly at right back, but he can’t defend. Just because he looks good going forwards, and has scored a couple of goals, should not guarantee him the right back birth. We need defenders with positional sense who can tackle.
I've said for years that Glen Johnson isn't good enough at the top level. He was good at West Ham and Portsmouth because they were midtable clubs but at the highest level he has been found out. My opinion is that he isn't even the best right back at Liverpool, never mind England. I think Martin Kelly is and will be a better player than him Richards should be starting, Walker as 2nd choice, Martin Kelly as 3rd, Glen Johnson as 4th IMO. Personnel isn't really the problem though, you are only as good as the team you play in, collectively England aren't anywhere near on the level of Spain, Germany and Holland, in reality not even Italy, Portugal and France either and this is Europe, don't get me started on Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay all of whom are better and then Ivory Coast and Ghana both of whom are at least as good as England IMO. Spain, Germany and Holland are reaping the rewards for the investment they have made in youth and improving the national teams. If England want to even get close to them in the next 20 years the mentality and philosophy has to change. Wilshere and Cleverley are both good players but they won't be enough and will be big fish in a small pond. As good as Sturridge and Welbeck could potentially be, neither at their current ages were a patch on Rooney. In 5 years time (or less) I really fear for England, despite loathing the national team
