Agree they were all round the best England team. If only Sir Alf hadn't thought we had won and decided to rest two players, if only Astle had scored, if only Germany hadn't had one of the best goal scorers of all time...(wonder what he would be worth now?). My old man always reckoned he could never get as wound up about football as me. He was a good footballer when he was young, playing for Leeds Schoolboys at Elland Road and for the navy during the war and like a lot who were good players didn't get as workd up about itbas those of us who weren't very good. He would always havevprefered playingbto watching. The only time I saw him show any real amount of emotion was when Leeds scored the winner against Arsenal for their FA Cup win and when Germany scored their 3rd. Both occasions ended with a bottle of Woods 100 proof coming out but for different reasons.
