We do have a habit of getting shown up by associates, don't we? Still, a little off the run rate and not many wickets in hand we are still favourites, but this man is looking extremely dangerous!

This is getting a bit too close for comfort.

Anyway, I’ve been wondering about your question, Marsupial – "since when where England such a strong batting side but an ordinary fielding side?" - but simply can’t for the life of me work out how or why this has happened.

Help me. Ireland are looking very, very dangerous. 243-5.

100 from 50 balls against a decent international attack

The old record was 100 from 66 balls, O'Brien has just hit 100 from 50 balls <laugh>

Well, in the end it's Ireland's carelessness that ends this partnership. If they wanted, they could take a single every ball and extras would take them to the win. Ireland favourites, but England getting near the tail. If they lose, once more poor bowling and a terrible effort in the death overs battingwise wasting a great start are too blame. Only Swann has bowled well.

Edit; I should point out, the run out got the wrong guy from my perspective.

Oh it's Cusack who was run out. I'm watching the text commentary and got confused.

Phew, apparently Ireland winning was odds 400-1 at some point. Imagine if you had waged £10 on that, you could be looking at a holiday right now!

If England had made a decent amount from the death overs, they'd be safe. 39 runs and 5 wickets in the last 6 overs is really awful. If Ireland can do this without losing wickets, why couldn't England of? I dare say James Anderson might not be playing next game!

I think Ireland just picking up 2 runs from a yorker sums up England's day... maybe they where complacent with Ireland 5 down... Bresnan has been the pick of the seamers again, but right now that's worth pitifully little.

    This is simply astonishing.

I've been listening to some of the Irish radio stations, by the way, and suddenly the airwaves are filled with frantic updates on Ireland's progress. I'm telling you, nobody gave a hoot beforehand. Oh, woe is me.

    The horror. The horror.
