I went to argue that it’s a different England…. But it simply isn’t. Joe Root aside, our batting isn’t there. I think. Burns &Hameed will get it together but they’re still in the infancy of their test careers. This pressure on Hameed is too early fir him IMO and he’ll struggle. on the plus side, they are the number 1 test team in the world for a reason
Woakes leading the way, enjoying his return, we need to get a third wicket this morning to be right back in it.
I'm sick of sayng it mate but Roots captaincy holds us back. Why he has persisted with Ali so long when he isn't even troubling the batsmen in the slightest is anybody's guess. Utterly ridiculous but that's Root for you, he has to be stubborn when it's going wrong hoping that a miracle will happen and his decision will be validated. I don't even think Ali has bowled a maiden, yet.
Ali - 22 overs, no maidens, 98 runs - 1 wicket. Nearly 5 an over in test cricket. No maidens so no batsmen being tied down and Root continues with him. His decision is literally letting India go into cruise control during a crucial part of the game
