Played well first half, could have been two up in the first half, we let them into it and they knocked it around well. Their second was soft.
I think the sterling argument is resolved now. Played 6 scores 0 assists 0. Has to be classed as a World Cup flop. As a striker/creative midfielder with nothing contributed.................... to be continued!
He did more in the time he did on the pitch than sterling did all World Cup. He created a chance. Sterling did not create any chances..... again.... didn’t score...... again.......... did nothing................... but created space for erm...... no one because he’s supposed to be the player in the space.
Ironic that Lee Dixon was saying that England were missing someone that could open teams up with a killer pass.......
National pride restored. Well done to every player and the staff. Yes it wasn’t our best performance but I can’t complain with their efforts overall.
I'll second this. I'd love to rant about the failings, Sterling really should be overlooked for Euro 2020, but truthfully it's been superb to support a team that really tried. We have massive limitations, there's nobody anywhere near the level of Modric or Rakitic. What was extremely ****ing annoying was Gareth's set up tonight. He kept Sterling up the pitch for a long ball attack. There is only ONE player in England who can play that pass, and he's sat at home shaving his head. Why Southgate took ****ING Delph instead is a conundrum only the manager can explain.
Yep he struggled badly. Sterling went very quiet 2nd half after a good first half so you can see why he was brought on. He’s just a bit naive at present to be worthy of starting. Only 19 though and will improve. Plus he is not made for that role. Kane went deep as a result and that hindered us further. Shame Kane didn’t square it for Sterling or take the 2nd chance, shame Lingard didn’t take his. We will learn from it and the younger generation will see us improve again. We need to find out Modric type of possible. Just quietly dictates the whole pace of the game when it matters. He had Alli in tatters 2nd half.
Don’t think it was naivety that did us rather it was inexperience at this level against a good and pretty experienced Croatia. We did well, much better than expected and that should be the main thing we take from this. Now we have to learn from the experience and improve for the next time.
