I think that is just the nature of fans finally feeling connected to a team again. Any number of reasons for that. No foreign manager, no really old manager. Southgate seems to have the players at least turning up fairly fearless and not freezing. He is a bit younger and I think it makes it easier for fans to connect with him and think he has a better working knowledge of our players. We are having a go basically. I agree though we've done only as expected so far but with an extra sprinkle of excitement against Panama. Regardless of standard of oppo you don't often smash a team 6-1 in a world cup.
it's not the two results. he hasn't said anything absolutely stupid since he was appointed. and he has said that this is the most important match for a decade. those two things made me think he wasn't taking Colombia lightly.
There does seem to be a shift in power in world football currently when you consider the previous few WC winners in Italy, Germany and Spain are all struggling at junior levels (not as badly as their senior teams admittedly).
I'm not sure who is going to win in the match between England and the victims of the Columbine massacre but Shakiras hips tell me the Swisserlanders will beat the victors anyway and his hips do not lie.
