I usually lay England to the tune of £3k in world cups past. Free munney. Didn't fancy it this year. I think it may be coming home...
Nah they made light work of Senegal. They have been decent all the way through and came out well in tough qualifying section in South America. I’d say man for man they match up very well to ourselves. I realise we like to think we are better than we are but reality tells us we are ****e at knockout football. Thankfully they aren’t much better.
As of this morning, the toughest team between England and the final is probably Croatia. Don't get me wrong, England are capable of losing to any one of Columbia, Switzerland, Sweden, Croatia and probably even Russia, but there aren't any teams you look at and go "Well that's hopeless". I would not fancy our chances against France or Uruguay but the only place we could meet them is at the final. This is ours to throw away.
I wasn't impressed with Croatia against Denmark but they scraped through and at this stage, that's what it's about, getting through.
No, the opponent has been changed. It isn't the south American country of Colombia who we are playing tomorrow but the small Arizonan town of Columbia, population 740. And we will still lose
That's cheered me up...as I thought it was Columbia, Kentucky, population 4452 ..and we didn't stand a chance against that pool of talent. So maybe a 50-50 chance against Columbia, Arizona (..but I am the glass is half full kinda guy)
Everyone is too far up sourhgates hoop in my opinion weve done only the expected so far ie Won 2 lost 1
This ^^^^ Genuinely don't know what we've done in the competition so far to generate this wave of positivity - see how they go tomorrow and I might be slightly more enthused but I doubt it - been let down by England so many times before...….
I think people can be forgiven for getting excited about or at least acknowledging that this is the best chance England will have of making a world cup final in most of our lifetimes. Doesn't mean we'll get there or even win our next game, but there are similar standard teams to us all the way through to, and including, the semi finals. England have plenty of issues in the team, though, so we'll need things to go our way in games to keep advancing, although we do have a few good players and they have played reasonably decent stuff so far (the ones that will actually play the remaining games, not the largely crappy back up players we put out against Belgium).
I agree. Capable of losing to all, but capable of beating any of them. We have nothing to fear and will not get it set up so kindly any time soon you'd imagine. I keep saying we will never have a better chance. I'm not sure that's true. If our youngsters translate their junior rating to the seniors then we will have a great chance on ability. Maybe we will never have a better chance while we're probably an inferior side than some of those left.
