I've not really heard people saying that. I think the consensus is that England have a decent chance of reaching the final, and then getting beaten by whoever makes it from the other half of the draw. The four teams in our half don't have much between them and all will think they have a chance of getting to the final.

I think we are all just going along for the ride. It's great fun if you can get on.

 

Having pride in our national side has been a rare thing in the my lifetime. Just enjoy each match and cheer them on. If we get knocked out then okay but i don't think it will be because they don't care or don't try hard.

 

I fully agree that Shelvey should have been selected. Would be very useful in certain games. However, if Jonjo had been playing yesterday he would likely have seen red. I doubt he would have kept his head amongst all the gamesmanship. And he would have been less effective than usual as the Colombians were closing us down fast and immediately harrying our players whenever we had the ball. Shelvey often seems to play a lot less effectively against such opposition.

 

He is actually classed as a Toon Doom-Monger.

 

Game against Sweden will be very different. They are not particularly skillful but are very solid at the back. They are content to give the opposition a lot of the ball and defend only in the last 3rd.
We will need creativity in the middle so Henderson will have to up his game and both wing backs will be crucial. Its a game that will suit Kane. Vardy would be a complete waste of time in this one.
If we can get an early goal and force them to come out and attack we could win comfortably.

 

Can see it being 0-0 and going to ET and then penalties. They are difficult to break down. We are not brilliant at breaking down tough defences. Can't see many goals, if any.

 

You're right, and it would be madness to think you'd need 3 CB's against Sweden. That's how we'll play, though.
