Yes, you can opt to retain the ball, or you can look to open up a defence which means you risk losing the ball. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

  2. None of those artists can be called real mainstream.

Okay, AC/DC became mainstream after the death of Bon Scott, but apart from Back In Black, most of the albums that influenced me were from the days before they had songs in the singles charts.

Name me a record that Michael Schenker played on that you would call mainstream?

Ritchie Blackmore played with Deep Purple and then Rainbow, neither of which can really be considered mainstream rock, certainly not the early stuff.

I could go on, but you're boring me, CFC.

If you don't like hard rock, that's down to you.

I could name many scores of artists that you won't have heard of that have influence me, and that I believe are great players, but what would that prove, ultimately?

Bon Scott era AC/DC were one of the great rock and roll/rythm and blues acts. Absolutely on the pulse.

Now they just go through the motions.

  6. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

We could argue until we are both blue in the face about what makes a great musician.

Let me assure you that all of the people that have influenced me are great guitarists. Does one have more "soul" or "feeling" than another? Well, that depends on what you define as soul and feeling, and that's going to differ between all of us. I have to confess, that the majority of Blues guitarists - some that you would consider to be "greats" - bore me to tears. They play the same old stuff, over and over again, on practically every single record they recorded.

As I used to say to a very famous guitar musician friend of mine, "just because you add a bit of vibrato at the end of a phrase doesn't mean you are feeling the music any more than someone who doesn't do that." He laughed at that.

  7. I'd have to agree with that.

Angus had said everything he had to say on the guitar by the time he recorded Back In Black, and the rest was merely him rehashing what he'd played before.

But that happens with most musicians.

There are only so many ways you can play those five notes (six, if you add the "blue" note).

BB King never got boring - he just got better and better at being BB King.

Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Chuck Berry the same; none of those guys ever got stuck in a rut. They got stuck in a groove.

When he's running into areas where he can cause danger then yes but to make my point, late in the game yesterday he ran wide left around the edge of the box, you had been under pressure, he was at the line and tried going past the dfender, it was stupid and any player with a brain would turn out and look to retain the ball and keep possesion. In his defence he's young and may learn but he's got a lot of experience and should get basics like that right.

Don’t think he would have been on the pitch for more than 20 minutes in that match because of his lack of self control.

If Sterling’s brain was half as fast as his feet he would be a great player, but it isn’t and I doubt that it ever will be.

I'm more concerned about your eyesight!
