He's a cog in a bigger machine HIAG, but he hasn't really performed at this tournament yet. As I said though, that's down to not being fully fit.

agreed, when he came off our attacking ended, he looks to be the only player that has the ability to unlock defences. He hasn't been great, but he hasn't been terrible either, I'm hoping he hits his heights in the semi, if we get there.

  4. I love all music, Archie.

However, the primary influences on my own playing are guitarists such as Hendrix, Page, Schenker, Ritchie Blackmore, Gary Moore, Angus Young, etc).

These are hard rock guitarists, not metal.

You may be confusing the two.

Not sure if anyone's posted the reaction from the pundits, as I can't be bothered to check:

Jimmies Hendrix and Page I would personally describe as blues guitarists. Angus Young, rock n roll all the way.

    All semantics, I guess.

    Yup.

I see it as we've invested in him now and we may as well stick and see if he comes good.

Its also a risk using an alternative.

I wouldn't be annoyed if he went for Rashford though.

Sterling could make a good impact with his pace after 70 mins.

Sterling was poor in that game his decision making and touch were not good.

  15. Hard rock guitar is typified by riffs and solos based almost entirely on the blues pentatonic scale, played loud and fast. Take any of the guitarists that I mentioned, strip away the distortion, turn down the Marshall stacks, and slow those burning licks way, way down, and you'll have yourself some Blues.

Fine margins mate. You try things, they don't come off, you can end up looking bad. Still prefer to see a player willing to gamble a bit, personally - which is what Sterling seems willing to do.

Rashford too, actually; nice selection headache to have.

I agree to a point but at times they are very basic football decisions that mean you retain the ball or lose it and he picks the wrong option too often, a better team would punish you.

Yeah, but it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. You can be a technically accomplished musician, but basically anyone can learn to play rock; it takes an artist to make it roll.

Like Ginger Baker said of John Bonham - he had great technique, but he couldn't swing a bag of ****. Not really fair actually, and that's as close as Baker ever gets to praising any drummer. But the point is still valid.

Johnny Thunders (New York Dolls, Heartbreakers, great solo artist but largely unrecorded) said of Jerry Nolan - we can get any number of good solid rock drummers. But Jerry is a rock and roll drummer, and they're hard to find.
