Apparently Sturridge has just limped out of England training. Shame.

Press Association Sport report that captain Steven Gerrard, striker Rickie Lambert and defender Kyle Walker all trained with England despite missing last Friday's defeat to Chile through injury.

Midfielder Jack Wilshere was also present despite suffering a calf problem against Chile. Goalkeeper Joe Hart, who has been on the substitutes bench for the last four Manchester City games, looked keen to impress, taking to the field 30 minutes early along with fellow goalkeepers Fraser Forster and John Ruddy.

England manager Roy Hodgson is due to hold a news conference from 1330 GMT, where he is expected to confirm whether Daniel Sturridge will feature or not after walking off the training pitch with what appeared to be an injury.

    1. After 30 minutes of aerobic work, Roy Hodgson's squad split in to two teams for a practice match. The line-ups gave a hint as to who may start, with Kyle Walker, Chris Smalling, Phil Jagielka and Ashley Cole featuring in front of goalkeeper Joe Hart in what looked to be the first-choice XI.
    2. The midfield consisted of Steven Gerrard, Tom Cleverley, Adam Lallana and Andros Townsend. Wayne Rooney sat just behind Daniel Sturridge up front. Everton midfielder Ross Barkley replaced Sturridge when he went off, with Rooney pushing forward into the main striker's position.

Adam gets another chance then. Well done Roy. Hopefully Rickie will get on at some point.

    1. England manager Roy Hodgson: "Daniel Sturridge is fine. Last week he couldn't take part in training much as he was having treatment.
    2. "But his injury has been improving and the only reason he came off in the training game was to give Rickie Lambert a chance at centre-forward because there is a good chance I want to see him."

Yup, would rather have seen Gerrard & Henderson if he has to insist on playing Gerrard at DM. At least they play week in week out.

Barkley should have been given more game time, he looked really bright when he came on. I think he has much more to give than Cleverley.

Why ? they only give it back anyway. Much better the Roy approach of chasing shadows for 90 minutes

How about we just drop the entire midfield and start working on one which might be good in time for Russia 2018:

    ---------Chalobah
    -------JWP---Hughes
    Powell --------------Lallana

I thought we were finally ready to pension off Gerrard+Lampard now we've got over the 100 caps thing. Guess we'll have to wait until after Brazil when they all "retire from international football".

Schneiderlin is eligible now, but won't be selected, firstly because of the "agreement" that we don't play players who weren't educated in this country, and secondly because he wants to play for France anyway.
