That helps. But a semi-final is a step further than we expected. There’s some child molester on another thread claiming Scotland going out of groups on goal difference with their best team ever wasn’t too bad. We’ll never be that.

I'm only trying to push a few buttons but the thread is dead.

One thing I really do think though is Kane is the worst golden boot winner I can remember. In terms of how good he's been this tournament that is I have no doubt over his usual quality. 2 goals v Tunisia and the rest pens or accidental.

Lol started earlier than I thought.

Tbh I'm not sure it's the players, I think it remains our style of football.

Don't think you can fault the players efforts but you don't have any real world class players.

The reality is we've been easily outplayed by the only top teams we've faced. Belgium x 2 and Croatia showed there's a clear gap in class between England and other sides.

I've loved the atmosphere and euphoria around the side, they've done us proud by all accounts but ultimately we did get to a semi final with a relatively easy route by comparison. Still been an enjoyable tournament but we're levels behind a number of sides.

Trippier, Pickford and Maguire can leave with their heads held very high. One or two others can be satisfied, the rest have either been passengers or poor.

One good thing we can look forward too is that there's finally a good amount of young talent that'll hopefully be giving Southgate something to think about over the next couple of seasons before Euro 2020. Sessegnon, Sancho, Foden, Mount, Winks, Grealish, Maddison to name a few.

We most definitely lack a creative midfielder. Nobody in that squad can see a killer ball and play it.

Apart from that, it’s the same old things. First touch, ball control, lack of movement in the final third. And let’s not even talk about the final ball!

To be fair, it was a pointless game and the players looked tired, it means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

But it does show that Southgate must not play so many Spuds players, as they bottle it all the time <laugh>

England did us proud, rule Britannia and all that stuff <diva>

We’ve had 3 players who can do that in the past 40 years and mismanaged all of them. Hoddle, Gazza and Scholes.

You're right, neither were anywhere near as good as Scholes, but that's the type of player we now need.

Scholes was class and won many trophies, but the other two not in the same class, although I rated them, but they won **** all in comparison to Scholes

They won an FA cup each back in the days when Spurs used to win the odd FA cup.

Grand scheme of things yeah, **** all.
