Biggest problem we have moving forward from U20 or U21 level is the lack if meaningful game time they'll get at the top level
Interesting though that before any of these clubs turned "big" and hoovered everyone up, our last decent triumph was in 1966. Maybe it just takes time and the whole fact everything is now more difficult for young players to succeed will in the end start to produce some players with the commitment required to make good on the talent they have.
Some of it comes down to managers being braver. Thinking of two clubs off the top of my head, Man Utd and Liverpool have never been scared to throw kids in the first team, whereas we tend to give them 10 minutes at the end 2 or 3 times a season. Is that because their managers are more forward thinking? I doubt it as it has gone on over a few different managers at each club. Are their youngsters just better? While they will probably have the pick of the best they won't be head and shoulders above their U20, U18 and U17 team mates. Or is it that those are safer environments to introduce kids to the team? I think it has to be that. Partly it will be down to having a better quality of team mate around them, but possibly we have to ask if their crowds are more educated on what introducing kids to the team means?

Said on our board that kids needs to be playing first team football and it doesn't matter what level it is.
Young English players are too quick to jump ship second a Prem team comes interested in them at 15/16/17 years old. They then do faff all for 4 years and end up being a league 1 player in their midn20s.
Lookman played lots lots of games in league 1 for Charlton before moving, Lewis same with Leeds. Both look better for it. Should be a ban on English players moving before age of 18. The Liverpool guys in Solanke and Ojo, neither are going to get much game time for us. If Solanke had moved to a Champ club rather than us, or Ojo stayed at MK dons then Solanke would play 30+ games next year and Ojo probably have 2 seasons at league 1 / Champ under his belt.

I always found it a little strange when people said that we don't produce talent in this country. We always have done. The problem is that we don't have a system whereby there is a system and philosophy in place from youth to senior level. Most of those youngsters could go on to great things one day. They need games to do that.
Woodman - Massive prospect. I said earlier somewhat tongue in cheek that he is better than Pickford. In terms of PL experience, no. Potential though he is. He has been highly rated for years and with the right coaching will hopefully fulfil his potential.

There is potential in all of the players who have just won the world cup at 20 years old or under. But that is what it is.. potential....
If we as a nation do not use that potential and allow the players time to adjust to the premiership then they will mostly all end up being one hit wonders.
The premier league should introduce some sort of rule which means that 2/11 players in the starting 11 have to be born and bred english U21.
That would make it much more interesting.
No fannying on with daft rules. Just 2/11 of starting 11 have to be under 21. Its really simple.

It would also mean players like Stones who cost £50m will end up costing £70m. Forcing clubs to play certain players will inflate transfer fees even more so than they do already as the big clubs look to sign the best young talent in the country at inflated prices and then not play half of them, just have them as back up.
I don't think you can regulate which players a manager picks. What they could do though is to further limit squad sizes - including a limit on Under 23 squad sizes to stop the top few teams buying players they will not use. Managers would be forced to rotate in young players when they saw fit.
But you can. We regulte how many subs they can use. We regulate how many can be included in European competitions. There is. I reason why it couldn't work.
And so let them spend that money. The idea is that the player has to be from the academy. Not just bought to play instantly. It's not ideal I agree but there has to bbe a mechanism to breed young talent into the premier league. This is the only way I can think of it.

Why does it have to be in the Prem? Any young player should be doing best for their own careers, and if that means going and playing Championsip football for 2/3 years at 18/19/20 then so be it.
You're better off getting 100 games in Champ over 3 year period before moving, rather than going to a Prem club at 17 and getting 10 mins here and there at the end of a game.
Your right, it does not need to be just in the Prem. I am just saying what should be done in general. I see no problem with the idea i propose as long as all teams in the English leagues have to do it. What can be so wrong with promoting 2 out of 11 players from the youth team/reserves. It would promote competitiveness and encourage young players to not only try to get into the first 11 but to also maintain that level.
I worry it could be a problem for smaller clubs. There would be no issue for larger clubs who could have several young players not far from first team standard. However, if you only have 2 or 3 at that standard and a couple of them get injured then it could force a manager to promote someone who isn't ready and could do more harm than good in the long run. Alternatively, the 2 or 3 who are good enough could get over used which could also cause problems.

In France it was 98 players, with 79,062 minutes of action, at an average of 806 minutes per player. Four Premier League sides - Manchester City, Middlesbrough, Stoke and Sunderland - did not give a single game to an English player currently under the age of 22.

That's worrying for the Mackems because their U-23s are supposed to be getting them promoted next season according to some.
But not trusted this season for one minute - maybe a Moyes thing, but you'd have thought at least one of them was worth game time.
Although to be fair, I'm not sure how many starters or players with decent amount of game time we had who were U23 - Hayden possibly?
According to the Premier League qualification rules for playing under 23 last season the following players qualified:
Jamaal Lascelles
Ayoze Perez
Chancel Mbemba
Deandre Yedlin
Isaac Hayden
Rolando Aarons
Aleksander Mitrovic
All of the above made starts in the league last season (139 starts between them).
Meant English players - sorry, should've said. So Lascelles and Hayden (can't really add in Aarons unfortunately).
Not too bad I guess, compared to many clubs
