Rooney's a vastly over-paid footballer who is wasting what talent he had. Sturridge will make the most of the central position as he's proved all season.
Strange logic you mancs use, so Rooney playing in a "struggling side" still maintains his status but when it comes to Gerrard playing in weaker teams over the years didn't come into the equation, Rooney this season has kept Utd in the top half of the table and gotten them as far as they got in Europe on his own basically, ala Gerrard with us down the years. This season most cogs in our machine are in sync unlike at Utd were the major cog can't get the others to turn.
The team I picked is hypothetical and was posted in an attempt to show how England could look at a system based on the players available that understand the said system and who also play together week in week out I did point out that you can argue all day about what individuals should be in place of another but the point is the shape, style of play and personnel who are comfortable with it. The team I posted would have an understanding that is sometimes lacking in an England team.
Rooney is crap. He's had loads of tournaments to prove his worth and he's done nothing, even though he's been made the key player in all of them since 2004.
Not that I care but surely the diamond would be the way to go with Rooney in place of Suarez. Just tell Sturridge, Sterling, Henderson and Gerrard to do exactly what they do for liverpool and put Lallana/Barkley in place of coutinho. I guarantee if Rooney plays up front on his own with Welbeck and Sturridge playing as wingers like I expect will happen, England wont get out of the group
I'm going to give a big boost for England here. I hereby declare myself for England. (not sure if that's all I have to do, or if I have to sign anything). Although under FIFA rules I could play for Germany, Hungary, the US, or Romania- since none of them have called me on the phone- and I am a British citizen born in Cheshire, I am going with plan E and declaring myself for England. I will sit by my phone and wait for Woy's call.
