It wasn’t just sporting loyalties. It’s about giving up your whole birthright by pledging allegiance to another country.

I wouldn’t expect Bangladeshi or Indian decent to support England because they were born here which is what Tebbitt said isn’t it? You can move to another country without giving up your own. If you’re asked to you should come home.

They always support their country of birth.

A friend of my family moved to Burgundy a few years ago, and has humiliated himself by insisting the locals refer to him as an 'Anglo-Frenchman' instead of an Englishman, because he considers his new passport and love of red wine to be sufficient proof that he is as French as Clement Le Pompouscunt and whoever else he now has for neighbours.
