Absolute Joke this Hate people who do not support their nation if they're 'massive football fans' You talk about not winning things and not playing nice football and thats why you dont support them anymore ? If anyone said this about their club you bunch of newcatle fans would slate them calling them unloyal and not true fans ? call it a disgrace and say no matter what we support our club So hypocrticial its unreal for years we have played awful football, had an awful manager, had overpaid bell ends.... yet ? we still support newcastle ? We call all other fans terrible constantly because they aren't as passionate and loyal as us Its your national side you weirdos no wonder we dont win anything when we cant even get our own country to support us Just pathetic get some patriotism for god sake
To be honest this is all the media's fault. they build up then crucify every england side. its no wonder they play with nerves when on international duty.
I've backed Scotland ever since I can remember and even though we haven't qualified for an actual tournament since France 98, I watch every game I can. Sure, as a nation Scotland will most likely never win anything but I have some truly astounding memories of wonder goals, triumphant victories and soul crushing defeats. I'll be watching tonight and shouting them on.
I agree with J O K E R. Let's get behind our country, however tribal it is, let's come together (not literally). I do HATE Gerrard though.
Unfortunately this is how fickle football fans are today. Imagine if we won Euro 2012 half the idiots on here would be celebrating....yet they won't support England during other games.
To be accurate, Holland, Greece, Czechoslovakia, Denmark and Russia may have won the European Championships but none of these have won the World Cup whilst Uruguay only won it in its early years when many teams didnt even enter so Joker is correct to infer that not many have won the World Cup (Eight including England). However quite a few have won the European Championships (Nine) where Englands performances have been most disapointing. For me the Toon, Geordielands National Team, will always be Number One by far but i still support England, follow the games and love to see them do well. A trophy long overdue tho. Was only just turning 5 when we won the World Cup so memory a bit hazy on that one.
I find England difficult to like. Newcastle are awful to support, but very likeable. All my mates at Uni have adopted them as their 2nd team, I even got a load of Ugandans on the Newcastle band wagon (get Facebook messages off them all the time about it now). I love where I'm from, I love the N/E and I love the fact its a part of England, but I don't see those players on the pitch as being representative of me or this area. That is to say, I don't think the 'golden generation' were. I watched the match the other night 'cause I was interested to see how Smalling and Cahill would cope (reasonably well) and am going to watch again tonight for similar reasons. Terry, Lampard, Gerrard - none of them excite me, interest me or endear me to the team! I'm glad the golden generation are becoming the olden generation, 'cause the sooner we're rid of their apparent monopoly over starting positions the better! Newcastle are my team, first and last. I'll watch England, and if they continue to blood youth then I'll continue to show interest. At the minute though, its all about the rugby for me!
I really dont care about the England team and never have. I'd honestly rather someone like the Faroe Islands or some other similarly bad team won the world cup thn England. Im not going to watch it tonight, because I dont care if they win or not, and I find them boring. I'd rather watch a national team with a toon player in. Thats about the only time I watch national teams.
Will always want my country to do well but then I'm patriotic. Its laughable that people try to pin our failures on each and every manager. Capello is top class and his results speak for themselves. He didn't get it all perfect at the World Cup but our failures were not down to him. As usual the media have made a scapegoat of the foreign manager because its the easiest thing to do. The minor things Capello got wrong were simply blown out of all proportion. He's done an excellent job with England. He picks players I wouldn't but in the main he is bang on the button. We're all armchair fans who think we know best. The sooner this country wakes up and realises we're not that good and that we've got about the 5th or 6th (maybe lower) best squad in the world, the sooner we can move forward. We need a winter break too, you cannot compete with these guys without it as the players are done come the summer such is the intensity of our season. I actually think we're progressing the right way now producing players like Wiltshire but it will take decades of producing these players (a la Spain, Germany, Holland) to get the results we badly crave. We've had our head stuck in the sand for years and coaching standards across this country are not in the same league as elsewhere. Particularly at grass roots level where the best coaches should be working. It'll be a 10-15 year process to get us challenging and hats off to Trevor Brooking for leading us down the right path at last.
I'm not really a patriotic person and have never had the passion for England like I do for Newcastle. For me, I don't see it as a choice, because, for as long as I can remember, I just don't get anywhere near the same feeling/emotion for England as I do for Newcastle. I'd like to, but I don't. I want them to win, but I'm not really that fussed when they draw/lose.
I'm just indifferent to the whole 'southern biased' (RE;Capello's recent comments about not getting up North) England team. If it's a world cup for England or a Prem title for the Toon I'd take the latter every day of the week...
Take a chill pill mate. It has nothing to do with patriotism whatsoever. The current England team do not deserve my support at the moment. They do not play for the shirt and we can all tell that this is the case. It is as though playing for England gets in the way of their club and outside life.
You watching tonight OT?? I always think if Newcastle were a national team we would be Scotland,a harrowing hard luck story at every turn!!!
