I think this is a pretty big reason why England have always struggled for balance in midfield. Nobody ever said Makélélé or Busquets should be scoring more goals.

Would Flanagan not be above Clyne? Anybody think Stones has a chance in Jones' potential absence?

I like Stones and I think he is a good shout but it is a big ask - our lack of depth in defence except at left back is obscene!

I think Stones was really exposed against us, though Alcaraz was worse. However, he's got a lot about him, and I'd take him ahead of Smalling.

and at that time should have been the first name on the sheet; back then the question should have been which of the others plays with him. Still, that's gone now.

Clyne has to be in with a shout now. And yes Roy did mention him earlier in the season didn't he. He may quietly sneek in then? Let's hope so.

I'm more worried about Robbie Fowler, Alan Hansen and Robbie Savage.

I actually find Robbie Savage quite funny. Sure he's a dickhead at times but 606 on a Saturday with him and Darren Fletcher is entertaining. But he needs to drop the "pick Andy Carroll for the World Cup squad" now - it's getting very annoying.

I like Savage. He's abrasive, sure, but he's often got a point, and isn't afraid to take on the "big dogs" of the studio like Hansen and Lawro.

Yeah, I like Robbie Savage too, but he does need to drop the Andy Carroll brings something different twaddle. I'd love to see Steve Claridge used on TV, but sadly he doesn't have a high enough profile, so it's Radio5 or Football League level for the TV. Excellent pundit though. Honest and has his own genuine opinion. Love the fact that Mark Chapman can't shut him up on the Monday Night Club either. There was one time though. Anyone remember this..?

Which was a pretty OK goal, in my opinion. :)
