Totally agree on the leadership thing. Love or loathe Terry & Gerrard had it. Tell you who has it, the always overlooked Shawcross.
great shout. why he isn't in that squad says it all about the 'selection' process. proper centre-half and leader at the back. pisses all ower cahill, stones or smalling
Whilst I don't agree that he pisses all over Smalling, Smalling, along with many others, didn't cover himself in glory under Hodgson. The Shawcross thing... well, Zlatan ended his career before it got going, 2-1 up with 20 minutes to go, Shawcross comes on and Zlatan scored three more, scoring four in total, including this... please log in to view this image Yes, that's Shawcross, slowing down in the penalty area, not taking Zlatan seriously... as you can see, if he carried on running he'd have probably got a head on it and cleared it.
If they were playing against Ibrahimovic I'd expect them to. Either way, we're not spoiled for choice with centre halves anymore, none of them are world class, after having a succession of world class centre halves for a long time. Edit: Shawcross even admits, it was Zlatan who finished his England career off. Allardyce, I'd imagine would bring him back.
I'd play Shawcross and Smalling at the minute. We didn't like Terry the man but he had some ability as a CB. We need some defenders through for sure.
Terry was the guts and the wall, Rio was the ball playing calm, composed master. Awesome centre half partnership, with Ashley Cole next door, probably in my opinion the best left back I've seen in my lifetime. Gary Neville did a great job too at right back, he had a brilliant understanding with Beckham on the right side. Then, eeeeyoooore, David James, the flapping donkey, he turned to **** in an England top. There's always one idiot that just ruins a good thing, if it wasn't him it was Robert Green.
That really was a back 4 wasn't it, let down as you say partly by goalkeeping but in the main by a talented midfield that never clicked. Watford just rejected £37.5million for the awful Ighalo. The world is a strange place.
Who bid that? Liverpool or Chelsea? Ludicrous prices, that's rude. Their problem would be attracting a £30m striker to their club mind... I think they might regret that though.
Ah China, that makes sense. I see Townsend has gone to Palace, him on one wing, Bolasie on the other... they could make a good go of it.
We are apparently hoping to win the world cup by 2022 !, not at this rate Kane should be doing by then I hope.
