I felt sorry for Croatia too. Could have had a pen easily (maybe even for the one in the first half too), plus the Spain goal could have been rule offside. Weird too that even before that with a draw they could have been going home with a better goal difference than Italy due to the odd system used by UEFA (in fact Italy would have topped the group with a worse GD than Spain or Croatia) ... which will not be questioned until a team like France lose out because of it.
Ramos scything down Mandzukic was just outside the area, but only by a couple of inches - yet they only got a corner, and Corluka was booked for (quite rightly) asking the ref to do his job. Sherer tried defending the challenge at half time, even with numerous replays showing Ramos got the ball after he got the player. Italy were right in suspecting shenanigans in that match, but it wasn't the scoreline that was suspect - it was the referee.
On the subject of shenanigans, the mini league concept seems to be encouraging them.
