The Germans went out, too. Our media luvvies' demands that we be more German in our football is showing progress already. of course we need to fail to qualify quite so consistently, then we'll be among the best in the world. Or something, apparently, I dunno, read a ****ing newspaper once in a while, why don't you?
ok so here's the thing. 1. terry's a donkey... he's a big english donkey who was made look great by ricardo carvalho. now he was a real player. he's well past it now so don;t look there. 2. I don't like the look of jk's side sorry need to face facts whilshire is decent but he is not xavi or iniesta. we make this kid out to be world class without actually doing anything.... i would not play sturridge yet, its so far off say 96 when you had 3/4 decent guys.... shearer, sheringham( decent only) seaman, pearce, ince, you know guys you could at least hang your hat on. 3. England are actually struggling to scrape up 11 players from the top 4. until they can make an 11 ou of the top 44 players i nthe league (thats 1/4 of each top 4 team starting 11s...) then they will continue to be crap..... 11/4 = 3 players. here is the issue.... utd = carrick, jones, smalling, rooney, young, cleverley, welbeck... city = milner, barry, hart, chelsea are cahill and cole really. arsenal is whilshire, walcott. whats the pattern? english players are defensive players in the main, very very few creative players in the top 4 qualify for england....... if you go further and say ok, what do we want, well it aint walcott whos a perfect english type run run run type. In short stop bigging up young kids like whilshire but hope to god they do come through in the CL format and become the next real big player. fcus on developing the breadth of playing pool and just get the top clubs to bring along better players... lets face it utd's english core is the biggest but its weak.

We need to look away from English managers - they'll all dull and play awful football. Ideally we'd look away from English players too if we want to improve
heres the thing.... sir bobby robson was hugely regarded right orund europe and had success in minor leagues like portugal and holland but also managed barca... venebles went to barca.... hodgson conversely also had success in sweden... mcClaren had success in holland. ****e football will get you so far.... its unreal that ALL the best managers in he world are italian, why? cos the defend like mad, less goals in, top players u pthe park to score = success.... now the fashion is Spaniards to pass the hell out of the ball and not score but no conceed either. I reckon the english game is killing itself cos its players are dross, we have had 20 years of prem football with top players like zola and bergkamp and progressing onwards to all the rest and now we are in love media wise with a welsh donkey who can run fast and kick it hard.... we never ever seem to learn or evolve, we bring in players who are brilliant technically and let them loose in a free for all where they can score for fun. But we never tighten up ourselves or improve, we just rush about and call it a style. rush rush rush, the pace of the game, best league blah blah.. i've heard it all. I am old enough to remember ferguson playing in europe and getting hammered cos thats all they did, they play a counter attack possession game far more similar to a continental side than anyone wants to admit. WE then abuse and castigate any foreign coach like rafa or mourinho for being negative when in fact they merely do their job and set the team up to be solid. One of these days england will realise that is goals conceded not goals scored than wins world cups for spain and for italy and for even germany when they did win them... we say germany are a bunch of bottlers.... but the reality is they simply conceed too many playing freely for the past tournaments. As if we'd know.... No english coaches have no clue how to set a team up to defend properly, that and a distinct lack of players who can then break out of the defensive pattern with the technical game required to break a top side down. I only need to point to the STATE of newcastle as a prime example of what I mean. Fill the team with frenchies and they improve.... their manager never had a clue how to defend back when he relegated west ham and he is as bad today. fix the back line and the goals are down to the players. The mistake kenny dalglish made in this is buying dogs like downing and carroll to do the goal scoring. defensively we were ok. this year our best defensive period is when johnson wnet left full and wisdom came in.... co-incidence? i think not....
Not sure I understand your last point, MITO. Are you saying Johnson defends better on the left? That Enrique is a bad defender and should be replaced? That Wisdom is more solid than either and needs to start? Or all three? Personally, I'd prefer Enrique and Wisdom as fullbacks...
Don't forget penalties MITO: the trick is to not concede or score any goals in play and then score them all from the spot! That's the Secret!
With England, they don't have the quality players the rest of the world do atm. We should pick the team every game based on league form, every game. Keep the captain the same to show consistancy, but he is only known as the 'Squad captain' if he's out of form, he doesn't play and the band goes to the next reliable player. If the inform players at that time are for example, Lambert, Lescott and Downing, they all start and we play that way. Out of form superstars can come off the bench to bring impact, to prove a point to the manager. How I always did it in football manager.
So why have we not done anything over the last ten to fifteen years then? We have had some of the best players in the world in our team over that time.
Carrick rarely played for England, clearly that's why we failed. He's the best midfielder in the country
MITO - I disagree with your assessment on Wilshere. I do agree that he may be overhyped but he's a seriously talented footballer and if he keeps injury free, then he will be England captain and will be the most important part of England's midfield. The best compliment I can pay to Wilshere is that he doesn't play like an Englishman - i.e. he has fantastic technique, brilliant intelligence and vision (for someone so young) and he can keep the ball. English players seem to be scared when surrounded by defenders and look to pass the ball quickly. Continental players don't care - they demand the ball even if they have 2-3 defenders around them because they are so confident in their technique. Wilshere is the same and he knows how to use his body strength to fend off players and it's something that English players in general struggle to do. The only criticism I have Wilshere is that he needs to contribute more goals and assists, however is usually involved in the build up.
he's also a kid, he is not yet messi but the english media want him to be that NOW. he is a talent but so is coutinho... the english media are making him out to be the worlds greatest before his time. Let him be what he will be, in the english prem that emans anyone with talent moves further and further forward until they lose the ideal position.... if xavi has playing in england like fabregas our way would have made him a second striker not the truely world class player he is. Could whilshire be a xavi? hmmmmm but i can tell you he'll end up like fabregas and be moved up the pitch until a great talent is wasted. Look at arsneal... carzorla, whilshire ramsey... not one DM there. arteta as well... if we push whilshire up and up who will there be to make the plays deeper and put england on the road to ball retention, passing and intelligent play.... I just think myself as an opinion that the BEST midfielders are just that genuine midifelders not "attacking midfielders" who do we want a silva or mata or a xavi or pirlo? IMO england need a xavi... just the way i think about it....
