Partly agree but the likes of Hoddle and Keegan weren't defensive. However, both left well over a decade ago too.
My lifetime is mainly 2000 onwards really, can't even remember the likes of Hoddle and Keegan. Earliest I can remember I think is Sven (?).
Sven was when things started to go downhill in my opinion. Too many friendlies which also involved far to many changes / substitutions etc. The CL grew bigger too. I remember watching Italia 90 but nothing of the 92' and 94' tournaments (latter because England weren't involved). Euro 96 was immense, shame I missed the game against Spain but the matches against Holland and Scotland were superb
I thought we were a pretty good side under Capello - dominated the qualifiers but the players were scared at the tournaments. Personally, I think the players are good and the next crop of England players more technical and tactically aware - thanks to the more continental set ups at clubs (LFC, Chelsea etc). Roy Hodgson and Stuart Pearce are not the men to lead the nation.
I thought it was awful (to watch) under Capello but he did get the results in qualifying. The problem was, he'd change his approach when it came to a tournament. He (and Sven) also had their preferred starters and refused to change them #gerrardvlampard
1. harry redknapp is very sore that a plodder like hodgson got appointed as england manager 2. harry redknapp's been found out several times in engalnd and frankly Levy decided to be the best he needed to go away from the dinosaur approach... redknaps a 442 merchant just like roy hodgson!
Fair enough but Capello and Sven were our most effective managers in recent times which is further evidence that tactical knowledge is far superior to 'motivators' like Redknapp, Pulis, Moyes etc that the English media love to big up.
What is perfect for it?. Animal?.Please do not forget about cruelty to animal. My dog do not like to be caged.
It's perfect for caging the kids when I go shopping, makes my life easier. I don't think it's cruel as I would leave them some water.
England needs it experienced players and leaders. If I was England manager the first thing I would do is try to convince John Terry to play for England again. People may not liking him but he is the best we have in that position and he is a leader. As a player I do like Terry's style. Next, where is Gareth Barry? Next, Rooney has not earnt a starting place for England. ------------------Hart----------------- -Johnson--Cahill--Terry--Baines-- ----------Gerrard----Barry----------- ---------------Wilshere--------------- ------Walcott----------Chaimberlain ---------------Sturridge--------------- I like the look of that team a lot. Good in possession, pass and move etc. Pace in attack and lots of through balls for the front three to run on to. I'd give younger players like Rodwell, Henderson and Walker more prominent roles. I dont rate fill Jones, I really dont understand his presence in the England or United team. I dont feel any manager would do better than Roy atm. But I think lately his squad has been questionable.
England have been ****e because of those who are picked no matter what their club form. An injured Rooney taken to a tournament, an under performing Gerrard and Lampard and accommodating them both. **** keepers, Poor mentality before a ball is kicked. England have always been negative and ineffective until they go behind then get level and get all ****ty pants again. Sven was one of the better of recent managers. Capello could only scratch his head at the awful personal performances of players when it got to tourney time. In other countries it seems to be a big thing to play for your national side, for England it seems to be a hindrance to your club career. A manager would be better served by starting off with picking all of the best young players and proceeding with them and build a team rather than selecting the same old big fat egos who for the most part have been made look good by the imports they play with at their clubs. How the **** Rooney gets into the England team is beyond any logical reasoning. Lambert should have played against Brazil, it was a friendly after all. Maybe Harry didn't get the job because transferring wages into Rosie's bank account didn't sit well with the FA
I think an international team should have experience but I don't think the current older generation should be anywhere near the England setup, they have massively failed over the eight years or so of the so-called golden generation, why would you want experience of failure passed on to the youngsters? Yes, the likes of Terry, Rio, Cole (Joe and Ashley), Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham, Rooney, etc have done well at club level but what have they done internationally? People talk about the English pressure, well I don't buy into that either. The last tournament had the lowest expectation levels I have seen from an England perspective, or did the players think they would win it and subsequently put pressure on themselves? I don't think we should throw them all on the scrap heap, start a fresh with youngsters and build for the future. I think we should be looking at players between 23 and 29 with the odd exception. Ultimately, we need to stop picking players because of the name on their shirt! Gerrard, Lampard and Scholes are the perfect example; three players most nations would die to have and we wasted all three! Pick one or two and partner them with someone that will compliment their styles. #squarepegsroundholes
cant remember what tournament, but i remember before Hart was first choice and deserved to be for his performance at City, we had 2 keepers ahead of him who played for teams who got relegated. when we have that level of stupidity, what chance do we have.
I think a midfield of Rodwell, Henderson and Wilshere could do refereshingly well to if they are shaped up right by the boss. the midfield I wrote above was picked partly for the kind of delivery they could provide for that front three.
Sir Alf managed a group of vastly superior players to he group Capello had. Pool of talent was far larger then, IMO Capello worked miracles with the hand he was dealt.
Capello made it a small pool of players because he refused to give other players a chance! Sven was the same, they had their starters and rarely varied from it, hence the many many arguments about Gerrard, Lampard and even Scholes too.
Hodgson's a lovable chap, but a ****ing terrible manager. He still thinks he's managing Fulham. Then again, in fairness, look at the ****e he's got to work with. James Milner FFS! No wonder we're inviting 3rd-worlders into the UK in their droves - it's all so we can play foreign kids like Wilfried Massivelyoverratedlittlearrogantcunt Zaha
