Enough of that IPL crap - the local leagues in the north east start this saturday after last weeks games being postponed due to the weather. Hopefully the rain stays away long enough to get games on.
Fingers crossed for the weather this weekend. My son hasn't been able to get outside at his club, just been indoor nets.
We've been outside for a couple of weeks but we have a new double lane practice thing - astroturf pitch so all good. Outfield is like a swamp mind - wicket looks ok and we've been able to do a couple of weeks rolling in between all the heavy rain. No idea what the first pitch of the season will be like - Very low and slow i'd imagine
I was reading the Durham league forum on Facebook and they were on about moving games to the May Bank Holiday and then looking at starting the season in May next year and running it through to September as its statistically a drier month in Sept.
Going forward I can't see it getting any easier to run our cricket leagues. It looks like it's going to be warmer, but wetter, and rain is always a showstopper. Perhaps we should start thinking about grounds with a roof.
He's got an older brother, Corey, in the Lancashire academy as well. Rocky 16 and Corey 18 I believe.
Yeah the league was supposed to start last weekend but those games were moved to the may bank holiday. The issue is there is a playoff with the tyneside senior league for the winners of the durham league to see who goes into the NEPL - this must happen by a certain date so all leagues need to be finished by that point. That gives us a set amount of weeks to get games in. The durham league i They batted together yesterday I think.
No disrespect to Jordan, but did we learn nothing from the ODI WC by clinging on to lads past their peak? At 35 surely we have better options?
No one lasts forever but it'll be a sad day when Jimmy hangs up his spikes https://www.theguardian.com/sport/a...-test-cricket-career-england-brendon-mccullum
Anderson bowing out at the home of cricket Hi everyone. Just a note to say that the first Test of the summer at Lord’s will be my last Test. It’s been an incredible 20 years representing my country, playing the game I’ve loved since I was a kid. I’m going to miss walking out for England so much. But I know the time is right to step aside and let others realise their dreams just like I got to, because there is no greater feeling. I couldn’t have done it without the love and support of Daniella, Lola, Ruby and my parents. A huge thank you to them. Also, thank you to the players and coaches who have made this the best job in the world. I’m excited for the new challenges that lie ahead, as well as filling my days with even more golf. Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the years, it’s always meant a lot, even if my face often doesn’t show it. See you at the Test, Go well Jimmy x
Can't say I understand why he's being pushed out when he's still one of the best bowlers in England. Don't know who is knocking on the door to make them want to look towards the future. Real shame. What an absolute hero.
That is very true. He is 41 though so we have to aim towards next year's ashes which he wouldn't have had any effect in.
